It could be due to the hauppauge remote connecting through the pci card. The MCE remote connects via usb which has 5v applied so therefor is responsive in S3. I'm not sure if you can supply 5v to the pci card. Try setting the PME Event Wakup to enabled in the bios.

Thanks for the tips, but I checked through the BIOS last night, and I'm sure I enabled all settings that looked related to waking up the computer, including the one you mentioned. But I'll double-check it again tonight to make sure.

Just to answer my own query... it's not possible to wake a system from S3 if you use the Hauppauge remote. As mentioned above, the PCI slots don't get any power, so the only way to do it is to use a USB remote like the MCE remote.

Not sure if I can justify buying another remote, just to save me the hassle of walking 2 metres to the mediapc to turn it on with the power button....

eXDee: Speaking of WOL my Asus M3N-78 EMH HDMI motherboard doesn't seem to like it, i've set it up in the network config to wake up on magic packets + pattern, and the ethernet lights stay on after being powered off, but for some reason it just won't wake up. No mention of WOL in the latest bios...

Is it onboard LAN?

Probably has an option for wake up on pci/pcie event? Make sure its enabled.

Slightly OT how many of you are using the newer generation ITX systems as HTPC? I've thought about it as you can get DVI/HDMI and I dont care too much about HD so the smaller cpu might not matter. they look a good way of saving power and the prices are starting to come down.  Although they could come down a bit more for my liking :)
