TP-Link smart plug. When Network Standby is enabled, 31 - 35w. When disabled, but a Remote Start enabled 2.5w. Even if it had a margin of error of 20%, that's still massively higher than 1.5w advertised for Network Standby.
Anyhow, I've contacted Sony and they are now investigating. There's more than just me with the issue.

I haven't tested that, but have talked with someone whose receiver gets very warm on standby when 'Network Standby' has been enabled. HDMI "Standby Through" is another setting that consumes power. I've been using my receiver today, so can't check right now as it'll be warm already. When 'Network Standby' is disabled, mine only uses about 2.5w, which shouldn't generate heat (I would've thought).

I have this amp. I can just about warm up the room with the Amp on standby. It produces crazy amount of heat so yes I suspect mine also sucks 30W in standby. I have turned off everything I can find on the amp but there must be a setting that eludes me.
Try disabling "Network Standby" in the Network settings. This is the setting that makes it jump up 30 watts for me.
Here's what the Sony website says:

grolschie: Yep. Thanks. I turned mine on (the smart plug, not the receiver) earlier this morning and it's currently chewing 30.3w with the receiver on standby.

it ha to be 30w with the amount of heat coming out. i'm not too worried about the power draw as much as the reduced life span of the thing.

Repeated test nr. 5 and 6 and indeed I get the highest reading 46.9W for test nr. 5 which is p.3W higher than test nr. 6

thanks. what's the temperature at 0.1 and 1W respectively? i have a temperature gun but no power meter.
