If you going to spend that much money why not get something with real pizazz like the klipsch powered speakers - R-41PM.

Sideface:

The Audioengine A2+ or A5+ will fill a bedroom with good quality sound - at a price.

Audioengine A2+BT Wireless Speakers - Satin Black $450

Audioengine A5+ Bluetooth Speakers - Black $880

The A5+ is significantly bigger - almost 4 times the volume of the A2+ - and sounds better - as it should, at almost twice the price.

I would suggest the A2+.

Looks like Computerlounge is one of the more expensive places to get it.

Check the Price comparison here on Geekzone to find the best prices.

Audioengine A2+

Audioengine A5+

Best price at the moment for A2+: $384
Best price at the moment for A5+: $686

More expensive, quite a bit more than Edifier. I've emailed AudioEngine and they seem like they'll try to help me work out what's wrong with the A2's, so I'll follow that up first :)
