DaveB: When setting up a blue ray player such as the above, do these play the Dolby TrueHD soundtracks?

Cyberlink software which is used for playing Bluray movies does support most formats of sound, but I think the limiting factor for most people is the sound card, receiver, or speaker setup.
Also in a PC I do not know of any sound card apart from very recent ones that may support TrueHD output. I do not know enough about the sound side of things myself so I am happy with 5.1 for the mean time until a definative answer and products are released.

My understanding is that there are now a couple of soundcards being released that will support TrueHD but they are very few. However others may know more.

Hmmmm, now this is where I have got VERY confused when trying to spend (most of my) time reading the various posts. I have made the commitment to build a HTPC based around a 1. blue ray function first and 2. HTPC capabilities secondly.
I have purchased a new Pioneer VSX-LX70 receiver with THX Dolby TrueHD and latest DTS capabilities and from what I can gather, there is a problem getting these latest formats off the motherboard/player.
Perhaps I am wrong and perhaps I have just read way too much and sent myself into Geekspeak Purgatory. I do know that I have the correct receiver, the correct speakers, but still unsure of the player/motherboard/soundcard with which to start my build. As you say, there appears to be no definative answer available.
Well drive arrived yesterday. Fitted last night and then spent some time trying to get Arcsoft Totalmedia to behave itself in VMC. Turned out that it was the iMon IR that was causing the problem as pressing any button on the MCE remote cause the media centre to switch back to media centre rather then perform the said function in TMT.
Appears that we have to wait for the iMon people to sort that problem out. In the mean time I am using the MS IR receiver which as always is working perfectly.
So tonight will be the test as the plan is to watch Casino Royale

It's not just you Dave, my eyes are bleeding from the research too. The problem with TrueHD sound delivery via a PC is similar to the video HDCP (content protection) issues. Most current hardware and windoze versions do not provide a protected audio/video path so the software player suppliers are reluctant to output unprotected HD audio with all the related rules and regulations surrounding Hi-Def formats.
In simple terms, the current HD software players 'de-rate' the likes of TrueHD sound before it's output to our AMPs. You still get all the channels and it works and sounds fine but we know that it has been watered down.
There is some hope that the hardware suppliers and software player suppliers will get together in the near future to produce a solution. Intel has made a step in the right direction by building a Protected Audio Video Path (PAVP) into the latest G45 chipset. Time will tell if it is going to be useful.
