Don't know which tcl you're sister has but my laptop has better speakers than my tcl!

When I got my Veon, the sound was initially OK because it was only voice on YouTube videos. As soon as I watched a movie or music video then I noticed how terrible it was. The sound was terrible even accounting for the lack of useful bass from the small speakers.

then the Veon has better sound than my TCL (note I'm not saying all models are like that) ... so just check the sound before you buy the TCL

I've mentioned the 42in Veon my parents got before. Out of the box, the overscan, brightness, contrast, enhancements and whack colour calibration made for an atrocious image. Running at 1:1 and using hardware calibration (it has decent enough individual RGB gain controls) pulled everything into line fine. Used as a PC monitor and with a Blu-ray drive. Never intended to use the speakers, and they are awful, but spending the difference on standalone audio hardware gets you much better performance than expecting it from what you can cram into a TV's form factor.

With how cheap TVs are becoming, it will be reasonable to use them as just wall coverings soon.

Yeah, the cost of just getting a large print, let alone framing it vs all the tech in a TV for the price of the OP's example is a pretty amazing contrast. The age of mass manufacture and cheap energy leads to amazing things being taken for granted.

I see this Veon tv is on special again for $349.
Seriously thinking about getting one to use as a computer monitor.
Anyone done this? Maybe hooked up a laptop at least? Picture look ok?
I currently have two monitors and was going to add a third but this would basically give the viewing area of 4 full HD monitors.
Also does it have VESA compatibility to allow it to be wall mounted?
Can’t find any mention of that anywhere.

It will have a VESA mount. Last year's model used VESA 200x200.

Edited to change to correct nomenclature i.e. mm instead of cm.

I have been using a 42 inch Veon as a monitor for a few years and it works fine for my purposes. Audio is horrible so run that through an old stereo amp to keep it acceptable.
