I suppose so, except the replies were specifically in reference to the OP's problem with cropping and retaining 1:1 pixel mapping on his 1080p display.
Anyway, my suggestion (and I don't know if it's possible) is to take the 1920x1080 source, crop a few pixels around the edge and then pad it with the same number of black pixels. That way the resulting output is still the correct 1920x1080 resolution. This may be unnecessary, I don't know. Maybe when you all say "crop" it automatically pads to make up the difference, but I wouldn't want a 1910x1070 (for example) output being scaled up to 1920x1080 for display.
The crop settings in MediaPortal don't pad with black. You lose the lines as far as I'm aware.
This is fine for SD broadcasts - not so fine for HD broadcasts. HD broadcasts fit the screen pefectly without cropping, it's only the SD broadcasts which have a problem. Hence my theory on being able to have different crop settings based on the type of broadcast - which currently, as far as I'm aware - is impossible to do in Media Portal.
I'm wondering if this may be possible in the codec's themselves or post processing - but I haven't had a chance to research this.
I would suggest going onto the Mediaportal site & see if this has been raised. You have a valid suggestion. If no one else has proffered it, then it would be accepted gratefully. That's why the open source projects are so powerful & successful; ordinary people making suggestions towards improvement.
