Hi, I agree wtih Sam (Chevrolux) as to the correct solution, however if you really want field terminations you could do this as below, but a lot more faffing that just coming up through the bottom plate within a wall and out via a faceplate.

Nice kit but a bit over the top for one-off use. Good to know they exist, though. I really just wanted to know if narrower connectors existed, or if there was any straightforward way to splice the cable. Thanks to all of you, I have the answers to that. I will think about this some more and decide what I want to do.

HDMI plugs are flat. Drill two holes the size required for the cable and join them into a round end rectangle.
