Amplified cables (Redmere chipsets etc) can bring their own special issues...

Compatibility with certain AVR's is one, another question mark hanging over their head is how they will work with the larger power supplies associated with HDMI 2.1 spec'd boards within new model AVR's (something to think about for any future upgrades).

I would look at fibre based HDMI personally - what brand you choose is up to you.

I have seen the below cable does 4k@60hz, I have a friend that works there so might be able to get it cheaper

I have also had good experiences with the Amazon Basics HDMI cables.  I will note that I have rec'd more than one faulty HDMI cable from Monoprice in the past.  Another source to consider is AliExpress.

Personally I'd start with Ruipro cables and work from there...

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Few basics...

Work out where your gear is going.
See so many smooth wall installs that look great, but then have cables dangling everywhere to interconnect devices.

Left field idea - consider tactile transducers to reduce the need for subwooders.  If you have kids, this makes a huge difference and doesn't wake them.

Heating/Cooling and ventilation in the room.  Air con?

Tied in with this is the use of low VOC materials and paint.  If it's going to be a clsoed room with a few people in it, make sure it's a nice environment to be in.

Thanks for the replies.

I see that cable is $275 over here, I did look at Amazon but would have to use Youshop. Are people still getting things ok form there?

Reading some reviews on monoprice there does seem to be some failures. I cant really risk spending that much on a cable and it being faulty.

Havent heard of transducers, will have a look thanks (although bedrooms are a fair away from sub)

I am going with a ducted heatpump, so will have a vent in there

If it's stocked and sold by Amazon, you can just get it shipped direct. I purchased 5 of the Monoprice ones about 3 moons ago and had them delivered within 10 days I think. Shipping was a little steep though, $16USD for 5 cables.
