I'm with the others; if you really need a new receiver, you are better trying to get a deal on a 2018/2019 receiver at the moment. With all (down this end of the market anyway) announced 2020 receivers only featuring 1 HDMI 2.1 capable input, they really are not worth paying a huge (or any) premium over them, and that's when we eventually see them. It will be interesting to see if anything from the Onkyo stable turns up with more, same with Yamaha, but really unless you are prepared to pay the early-adopter tax, I'd be Joe Biden my time to see what happens next cycle. It really only matters for gamers or 8k early adopters anyway, which in either case you are better syndicating devices on the TV end.
That might be easy said than done though, given current events. Additionally, I have heard from my local shop that there has been a shift around in management with the suppliers for Marantz/Denon (is that Soundgroup?) in NZ, and they are apparently shifting their sales strategies to stop 'diluting the brands', which I'm guessing is code for control the supply and dis-incentivize slash-and-burn sale prices. I don't know how much fact there is to that, but either way, the prices have shot up, and it doesn't seem like there will be much incentive for them to come down anytime soon.
I had been keeping an eye on the Denon X3600H myself, which had been hovering around the $2k mark previously. For me, that was the sweet spot for good features (11.2 channel processing w/ pre-outs, good room correction, measures well for a receiver) for the price, since I'd rather delegate most/all amp duties to external units. Oh well, keep on Biden.
If you do end up going with a 2020 Denon, make sure you compare the feature-set between the S960H and X2700H closely, as the former is from their lower end range and may be missing a few choice things; pre-outs for one.
