I have 2 of these and they produce a great stereo image - for not much money (currently 20% off as well):

I find the smaller models (not surprisingly!) lack bass, which makes them a no-goer for me. I’ve a couple of Megabooms I’ve owned for many years, which have way better bass than the Boom, it’s still nothing to write home about.
If it’s not straight-out portability you’re after (which is where products like the Boom series are so good) but a substantial and more balanced sound, then I’d go for something larger. Don’t forget that bass gets lost in an open space, so try to test a speaker in the kind of environment you’re going to use it in.
I have an older mini boom and one of the features I really appreciate is the ability to turn off the annoying loud 'power on' sound - which is great if you power on and off regularly in quieter spaces (bedrooms etc).
Do the current generation of UE boom speakers retain this feature?
I read a review of the new Marshall Emberton speaker - not sure if it has arrived in NZ yet - and it initially looked like a perfect replacement for my mini boom. Except the 'power on' sound is a loud guitar rift (no surprise being a Marshall) - but there is no ability to suppress this which makes the speaker no use to me.

There's a comparatively inexpensive brand "Marley" sold at HN etc, woodgrain finish. When I was looking at BT speakers a few years ago and trying out many different ones - they seemed to have particularly crisp clean sound, even if they lacked the bass of megabooms etc. It's all very subjective, but IMO they'd probably be less tiring to listen to for background music etc than the compressed doof doof bass sound that seems to be a typical feature of most compact BT speakers.
That's my subjective opinion - they sounded good to me - but don't believe me - try out yourself. Not easy in HN etc - some hifi shops stock these things - and have display units you can test in a listening room closer to how you'd listen to them at home etc. Then if you decide which one you like, please don't go back to HN to save $20 or whatever.
Like anything audio related, you're best to find somewhere that will let you trial the unit (usually display models are available) and use your own music and device. Then you can hear things for yourself and make your own decision rather than a sales rep/specs/marketing telling you its a great unit.
When I got my JBL Charge years ago, got told I should've got brand X instead as it was better - JB had brand X and it didn't sound as good to me as the JBL.

I have had both the JBL Extreme and the JBL Boombox for a couple of years. Both sound great with decent bass and battery life. The Boombox is far superior alas it costs a bit more. The Boombox has 2 modes ie Indoor or Outdoor mode. I tend to use the indoor mode as it sounds more Hifi vs the Outdoor Mode which sounds Boomy. It can go very loud when required so can surprisingly fill a large space with sound if required. Its basically an Extreme on steroids. I Have been very happy with it. It was recently replaced on the market by the Boombox 2 recently so maybe able to be found at a cheaper price?

Something I forgot to add was that for the JBL series, if you use their app you can link multiple units together either as separate channels (from Charge series up) or as a chain of mirrored devices (all models).
This is great if you're in a house with more than one of these devices - which I am.
Last BBQ where we had actual humans over (as opposed to the in-laws) I had my Charge 3 going in lounge quite loudly, one of the kids smaller ones (JBL Flip) going out by the BBQ and the other one of the kids' JBL Flips out in the front room to put some sound into the front garden through the open ranch slider.
Great for spreading the musical love about on the cheap (rather than buying an expensive multi-room setup).
