wellygary: Movies like 2001 and the special FX shots in Blade runner were shot in varients of 70mm film, so should look great in HD, more recently any of the PIXAR titles should be a lossless transfer, and when it get re-released on Blu ray ep III  of Starwars should be Stunning.

I second that re: Blade Runner. It was the second BD I got after buying an HD capable TV........

I have a recent "Home Technology" pullout (23/11) which has an Ad for two Blu Ray for $50.00.....

'A great time to get into Blu-Ray!. For the first time, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have a range of thirty titles at 2 for $50 available in NZ. Check in store for details".

However it does not mention a retailer, I have checked with Sony Style and they hadn't heard a thing about it. Does anyone know where you can pick up this deal?????

Hey I was shown this deal too but can't find any reference to it, even googled etc.  I emailed Sony but no reply to this question!  Sounds about the price these movies would have to be for many of us to consider purchasing them.  I saw this in a fancy Home Electronics type lift out from a Sunday paper, wonder if it was a mistake but then why would they do that?!  Looks good though if it does eventuate.

Transformers on HD-DVD was considered a reference disc at the time. The BD version would be better since while the video encode is the same, the audio has changed from DD+ to Dolby TrueHD. Plus the movie is fairly entertaining.

I have seen the 2 for $50 blu-ray deals in Whitcoulls (Courtenay Place, Lambton Quay and Porirua that I have been into).  Hope that helps.
Dog Day Afternoon, 30 Days of Night are the only ones I can remember seeing

Got the Hulk, Hellboy 2 and the Band of Brothers box set from Amazon. All extremely good looking and great sounding. All are region free too, have they done away with regions on Bluray now?

Unfortunately they haven't done away with regions on Blu-ray discs.
Here is a list of known region-free and region-locked blu-ray movies:

Master and Commander, not the best for picture quality but would have to say the HD master Sound track is the best I have heard on any HD disc!

Bladerunner will always be my reference disk though!

That 2 for $50.00 at Whitcoulls was Warner Brothers not Sony and the titles were all pretty average unfortunately.

Have been into Sony Style twice now, first time I didn't have the brochure and they played dumb

Second time I took it with me, "Oh yeah I have heard about that- I will just check which titles".

Came back "sorry I don't know anything about this, Sony Style are not involved in this promotion".....

Funny how the titles shown in the brochure were all displayed instore though.
