TheBartender: I tried, and did not like OML (or My Movies 2) for the following reasons:
- Its not very clean, info gets cut of at the bottom of the page
- It does not match the Media Center colour scheme and styling, so looks out of place
- Having to have every movie in its own folder (to make it work) is a pain in a A

Someone was saying there were some updates coming...any word on when and what they are specifically?

Has anyone found anything else/better?

There are daily build releases for OML. Evntually the bugs will be worked out. I think it matches media center though (unless you were talking specifically about mymovies).

Only other one I've yet to try is this one

I will wait and see on that one (OML)...as yet its not polished enough to be part of my main HTPC rig.

As for the other, I looked at that earlier, and while it shows promise, its more targeted at the TV recording section, rather than the movies/Videos section.

rhysb:

It's not free, but Collectorz has a plugin that comes with Movie Collector for VMC. Version 6.0 is supposed to be released any day now...

http://www.collectorz.com/movie/windows-media-center-mce.php
http://mcezone.com/moviecollectormce.php

That looks quite polished...might have to part with $50 and give it a go.

I am willing to pay for something that does everything and looks the part, is polished.

Give the trial a go before you part with any dosh. The trial includes the MCE plugin, it just limits you to 50 movies I think.

I gave it a go the other day and it came up with errors so gave up on it...
After reading more about it, I have tried it again...(the trial)

I don't know why, but both times, after I added some movies, I go to close the program, and it won't let me, it comes up with the error: 'Cannot create file: "K:\My Documents\Movie Collector\sortfile.txt" Access is denied.'

I can't close the program at all without going into task manager...so that is annoying.

But what I don't like the most, is the fact I can't seem to add movies by just selecting the folder they reside in, and then the program automatically adding them all...

If the program really expects me to add every movie individually by manually typing in its name...I would be at it for months.

Bugga that.

Another thing that puts me off that product...is they are now spamming me...
I intially went to download the trial product of thier site, and entered my email...to my mistake...
Since I have received many, and daily rubbish emails form them.
I eventually got the trial program from download.com with no info required.

Windows 7...resolves everything!

Have just checked out the latest screenshots (build 6956), downloading now....the Media Center improvements are immense.

With the release of Windows 7, these movie plug-ins will become outdated and unrequired.

I will no longer search and test everything for a comprehensive movies plug-in...will just wait for Windows 7.
(will try to get on the bets before hand)

Well, what do you know? Yesterday I decided to install MyMovies for Windows Home Server - since all my ISO files are already on the server anyway, so might as well unload the need of a SQL 2005 installation on my Media Center - less things running, more memory available.

So I installed MyMovies for Windows Home Server, and then uninstalled the MyMovies MCE from the client. Next step was to install MyMovies MCE Client 2.51 (the minimum required version to work with MyMovies Windows Home Server).

Argh. What a mistake. Now when I start MyMovies on MCE it will load the movie list, work for a couple of second and crash, returning to the MCE Start Menu - if it returns. I had to power cycle my MCE box a few times in the last couple of hours.

So now I can ask for support on MyMovies forum (which is a pain because it may take time since it's New Year's), uninstall the MCE client and install the old version restoring the local database. Or install CollectorZ and import the database to see how it works.

Either way it's not fun. Also if the MyMovies Copier service is started on the Windows Home Server then th floppy disc drive will be constantly accessed with that annoying head seek noise, evey two seconds.

Bring on Windows 7 Beta. At least they support ISO mounting now directly on the MCE. I am just worried if I can run an upgrade on my existing box - not sure of Bootcamp support yet, neither support for my DVB-T USB stick.

I am almost just selling this MCE and getting a DVD player and a TV with built-in Freeview.

Microsoft could do so much better with Windows Media Center, but like Windows Mobile they completely stuffed up the whole thing. They moved their focus to enterprise and business and left consumers waiting too long...

To what I saw on your netbook, and the reviews I have read, Windows 7 is a massive improvement....but...it still does not cataloge and display movies like MyMovies or OML does...nothing has changed or been added in the Video Libary folder. Cry

So, yes, great it will mount ISO's but still no organised and pretty dislay of the movies, like they do with the music folder.

Ho hum.

I've submitted a log to the MyMovies forum and they have released a new version today that fixes the problem I found.

I've not used MyMovies much because of the need to stump up with $50 US if I wanted any of the ripping functionality etc.

It's still sitting on my WHS and for now I will leave it installed with the view to playing with it further.

OML I'd not heard of but will download it and have a look, a number on the thread have spoken positively about it.

For now I'm content to wait for Windows 7 and hope to be able to have a good play with MCE in the coming few months.

The latest release of OML (r1036) has fixed these problems (except putting all the movies in their own folders Tongue out)

You can now scroll through actor lists, etc. Still a few bugs but its getting better fast

Here's another one

http://www.quiiq.com/movies/

I havn't tried it yet. It isn;t free but it does have a 30 day free trial. It gets mixed reviews like all of them, as a lot of it comes down to personal preference not just functionality & appearance.
