gkjb:
SNicolle: a bit of a hi jack but does anyone have insight into when the Wellington store opens.

can't wait for some low price competition

due to open on Dec 8th. not sure if they will keep schedule as there are still builders in there atm. that being said apparently they are confident of opening then

Big handdrawn signing saying "opening monday" (8th) on the door today, it wasn't there yesterday, so I guess they know how much they need to get done over the weekend and are comfortable they will be able to get there,

Have been trying to find Transformers on bluray for an xmas present, but have only found it in 1 store for $55, has anyone seen this anywhere cheaper? Thought I may as well give it a try before I fork out that much :P

Warehouse is starting to do specials.
JB hifi would be cool if I lived in Aucks/Welly
Whitcouls has a massive range, most I've seen at the mo, just at 'normal' prices is all.
www.simplydvds.co.nz is usually cheap, like Dark Knight for $42 ish but then there's postage on top of that too.

I see some bluray discs have just had the data transferred from DVD to the bluray medium, so basically the same quality.  Pays to check out each one first.

Can you tell us which movies they are?

I always check the reviews on highdefdigest.com and blu-ray.com and check what the video and audio scores are.

Pity you missed the Black Friday sales on amazon US as they had it at US$10.

What?  Are you serious?  If that is true, then it is false advertising as they are selling them for a premium price for no benefit in quality.

I doubt that, unless you purchased some questionable ones.  There have been some transfer issues with certain discs which the studios had to re-release, i.e. The Fifth Elemnt.  The issue is not that bad however certainly not what your talking about, take a look here for transfer quality http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858316#anchor5

Hi all,
Re the dvd /bluray transfer thing, it's probably extremely rare so don't worry too much about it.  I'll see if I can find the one I was looking at but it was a comment made on an Amazon bluray title.  It was a budget one so may have just been a one off like you say JaBZ.

There are differences between the studios on what soundtracks etc get included with their releases so it pays to check if it's got the bits you want, like a HD soundtrack etc and like you say Rhygar check the region coding too.

Looks like The Dark Knight is selling for around $40 in Dick Smith, Wharehouse and JB-Hifi.  Apparently JB-HiFi is also giving away a free T Shirt so might have to be in quick to get one.

Why is it that the online retailer Mightyape.co.nz is selling it for $50 and can't sell it cheaper than Brick and Mortar places?

Mm, not liking Mighty ape (they were previously gp right?) the prices just seem far too high for an online retailer.

Yeah they were GP Store before.  I still remember when they had Transformers listed at $100 and Iron Man and Indy 4 at $80.  Eventually they came down in price.
