PANiCnz:

The QA55Q80A might be worth the jump for $1998 at JB and PB Tech.

IMO for critical viewing, I'd skip it. They downgraded it to using an ADS panel, which performs like IPS, so it suffers from low contrast and black uniformity.

For casual viewing, it would probably be good as it gets bright, has wide viewing angles, and supports HDMI 2.1 features.

We just purchased the Q70a 55" (QA55Q70AASXNZ) last week.
It's on sale for $1899 at JB hifi and noel leeming.

We find the TV great, picture and software. One key benefit was keeping the wife happy, she can now airplay to the TV with her iphone. (not an issue with me, as I'm on Android and worked fine on the previous TV).

But we're only comparing against our 8+ year old 50" Panasonic LCD, which was only HD, so anything would probably be better.

ShinyChrome: @jp576 TBH there is very little gap between them.. Apart from preference on OS, the Q70a supports VRR now vs. Sony's "future update", but the Sony supports the more prevalent Dolby Vision vs. Samsungs HDR10+. Both are decent TVs with good VA panels, but lack local dimming though. There may be slight differences in motion processing, but that comes down to personal preference again

IMO, I would only return it if you were going to do the big upgrade to the next tier (Q80a/X90j/OLED) or the slightly smaller for the 65" X85j model for $2399 at Noel Leemings I linked above.

Thanks for info makes me feel better. My order was ready within an hour so i ended up picking it up and dropping it off home lol ( drive for a living and was in the area). Will give an update when i get it hooked up hopefully tonight or tomorrow night.

Quick update, just got it hooked up earlier in the night and have only watched a bit of toy story 4 (kids wanted to watch a movie on the new TV) and wow the picture quality is awesome. I always thought all 4k tvs were the same with negligible difference only noticeable by hardcore home theatre fans. Coming from the cheapest 43" Samsung 4k TV from a a few years ago ua7000 or 6500 i think this is a huge noticeable difference. Can't wait to watch some other movies and hook my Xbox up.
