Mine only came with PDVD7 BD edition so it purports to play BD titles. It does sort of, but my machine isn't up to it. The software cannot play HD-DVD's which is strange given the drive supports both

Have to agree with that. Have been using one for about 4 months now and it's great. And I have over 40 HD-DVD's so that function is invaluable. But I don't use the drive for playing HD discs - the PC isn't up to it and anyway I don't want to watch on a computer monitor. It's great for backing up HD titles to a server for watching on my HT system.

Plus it's easy to flash the firmware on it to a firmware that is more friendly to backing up HD titles :)

Where might one find said firmware? :)

The ATI Radeon's GPU will handle almost all of the H264 decoding onboard so the CPU becomes largely irrelevant. An E2500 will be more than adequate.

Now I need to find a passive 8500GT PCIe card for my system...

Got this drive on the way..Should be here Tuesday...I hope I don't have too much trouble getting the Blu Ray software to work...

Got it a day early and its doing a great job! Did all the firmware and patch upgrades and its playing Blu Ray like a champ...Im so happy this has worked out so well...Awesome picture on this new TV as well...

It comes with PowerDVD 7.3...does a good job for me..I updated everything and have no problems...But it did not work straight out of the box...Had to download the patches before it would play any Blu-ray...

Hmm - same software as mine. It can play Bluray but it's a struggle. But cannot play HD-DVD's at all which is strange for a drive that supports both.

I don't have any HD-DVD's and only rent Blu-ray through Netflix,but it makes me curious as to if I will be able to play HD-DVD... I want it to do what its suppose to do...I will be looking for a disc to try it out on and let you know how my luck goes...
