Mediaportal is great but there it can be quite tricky to setup & requires a lot of additional software ie .net, SQL express, and a number of fixes/patches to get it working just right.
if you do use mediaportal you will need to edit a couple of files.
A: satellites.xml
find the file (where ever mediaportal was installed) then right click on it and select edit,
I am a big fan of Mediaportal (I use on my main HTPC) and It is easy to install if your've done it a few times ;) ,but it does require a lot of things to be installed & Tweaked before it works.
If all you want to do is watch TV (and even record TV) GB-PVR would be easier (and a lot less software to install) I just Installed mediaportal 1.0.2 on a test HTPC last week and then today I installed GB-PVR to see what it was like, and man it was so much easier to install GB-PVR and get it going. Mediaportal ran like a pig on my Test HTPC (its only a Celeron 2.4 with 512mb ram & on board video lol) where as GB-PVR runs full speed on the same system no slowdown at all, mediaportal would slow down to crawl on the TV & TV Guide page.
So much easier to get a PVR150 with built in IR Blaster (Controlling a sky STB) using GB-PVR for anyone interested.
