Was it that stupid wildlife video again?
3620 you say.... very interesting, I've found jb always does good prices no matter what, the salesperson's knowledge is a bit hit and miss but they're usually always ready to deal.

Desktop: i7 920, GTX 275, asus P6T, antec 1200, 6gb ram, 1tb spinpoint f1, 1tb spinpoint f3, Logitech Z2300, Zero DAC, Shure SRH440
Laptop: Toshiba satellite, T5300, Go 7300
Home Theatre: 32" loewe CRT, Harmon kardon amp, dvd player, image 418 speakers, rega planar 25 turntable :)

thanks for giving the jb price - very attractive! They were definitely on our 'places to visit in Hamilton' list, so hopefully we can get them under $3500. If so, then it'll prob be the g for sure for us. Hamilton in a couple of weeks is decision time, we've been educating ourselves for the past few weeks, and really its just a g or s decision for us, so for the right dollars might as well go for it huh?

Just found out that a work colleague did code for the Panadollars website, and he showed me that Panasonic's wholesale price for the G10 is $3199 + GST without freight. He also mentioned that if they have damaged boxes, the prices can go even lower.

Other than that, all the other colleagues recommended JB as well.

Ha! No, it wasn't the wildlife video thank goodness. Really sick of that!

Oh, and www.cablesdirect.co.nz is the place to go for HDMI cables. I never want to see anyone spending 100 or even more again on one of thoses when a $16 one will do the exact same job. Salespeople are forever wanting to upsell with those because their profit margins are through the roof on them, just like extended warranties.

Absolutely, if the price is right, and you've done your homework, go for it! After waiting and researching, I managed to track down and buy my 50" full-hd plasma after previously thinking I could only afford a 42". In this case, educating myself was half the fun and paid off tremendously!

Nice one on the heads-up for panasonic's wholesale price. Very interesting. Though I have heard that the 'cost price' that stores work from will vary depending on the deals for bulk purchases that Panasonic gives them, so let it not stop us from trying to get a good deal for a cash purchase!

Definitely! If anything, the wholesale prices gives us a heads-up for pushing the store and knowing how much we can or cannot get discounted.

We purchased the 42" G10 last week. So far so good, except losing TV3/C4 on Freeview...

The picture is superb and we only have SD sources at the moment (apart from Freeview HD which has an excellent picture). We will be getting MySky HDi via the HN offer and I will be setting up the home theatre system to upscale tonight.

I have booked out tonight to play with the TV and set it up properly - I will let you know the results in a couple of days.

We didn't go for the 50" due to size restrictions in the lounge.

Funny. With the old couch we had in the lounge, the girlfriend didn't want a screen bigger than 42". With the new couch, she says 50" is the minimum. I, of course, did not express any emotions. Who knows if she'll switch back to 42"? (Hope not)

Well our 50" mock up is sitting on the wall - its huge, we can't wait. We occasionally wonder if its too big, but keep reading about how 'you always want to go bigger', so are sticking with the 50.

I only felt the 'it's TOO big' bug once, when I saw a 70" Samsung at Appliance Shed in North Shore.

Walked into a friends house - they had a huge rear projection screen, looked great (at the time) but took up the whole wall, they couldn't open one og the lounge doors - go figure!

I asked my wife what her thoughts were on the screen size we should get. Her awesome response was that "It's your toy, get the size you want". So I went ahead and did just that. Now we sit 8 feet away from a 50" screen! I'm sure I'll get used to it in a while, but seriously, that is one big rectangle looming over you in a small lounge!

I'd love to actually get a look at a V series in the future. Hopefully Panasonic will relent at some point. I read great things about its vastly improved 24p playback mode, an improved specification not shared with the other new models this year. However, having said that, I never had a problem playing blu-ray movies in the normal mode to begin with!

Seems everyones keen for a g10 now, I've started a trend :p
So in theory the g10's cost price should be 3600, though cost prices differ between retailers, sometimes by quite a lot.
I know 50 seems huge but have it in your lounge for a few weeks and you'll soon get used to it, unless you're like half a metre back of course.
Mmmm, that one piece front on the v10 does look very nice indeed but we never seem to get any of the really good stuff.
