I just bought the Samsung LA40B550 2 days ago from JBhifi in Wellington for $2186. I think it's a great choice in the price range. So far I've hooked it up to my old SKY decoder through composite (TV looks a bit crap but hopefully MySky will look a bit better over component soon), Upscaling DVD player thru HDMI looks great, watched 'City of God' on it last night...

The TV in particular i am looking at is the Samsung LA40B550. I can get it for 2400, otherwise the next one up (LA40B650) i can get for 2900.
Motionflow is the only difference between the two that i really care about.. i just don't know whether its worth $500.
I am mainly going to be using the tv for watchin SD TV, games and blu-ray on PS3 and DVD's on my samsung upscaling dvd player. Thats pretty much everything huh? lol.
Any furthur help would be much appreciated, just tell me what to do! haha.
I'm kinda choosing between those two models as well. And I've been wondering the same thing - whether the extra moolah is worth it. All the salespeople go about the need to have 100hz for sports (I watch a bit). But sounds like there is a lot more to it (no shock there!). Of course you won't be watching 'SD TV' if you're watching the Freeview channels.

A high proportion of the sales staff don't know what they are talking about. I'd pay more for an extra 6" rather than spend money on gimmicks. Unless of course you view the picture and think that it looks 20% better (bc that is the cost difference)

No stutter as far as my eyes were concerned. I chose this model over a larger LG (42) in JB's and another smaller Samsung 'cos outta the 3, it had the smoothest motion. My opinion obviously and I was limited to watching a wild-life doco of some penguins running over some snow (not too much fast action) in the store but I'm still happy with my choice 5 days after buying :-)

The review at hdtvtest seems to confirm that with the 650 you should use the 100Hz for sports but turn it off for movies:

We experimented with all the [100Hz Motion Plus] settings on the Samsung LE40B650 to find the one most suitable for film-based content. As expected, [100Hz Motion Plus] "Standard" and "Smooth" interfered with the inherent 24p judder of The Incredible Hulk, therefore making the movie look like it was shot using an amateur video camcorder. By contrast, [100Hz Motion Plus] "Clear" didn't appear to have anything to do with 24p judder reduction, which is good news for videophiles who cherish the dream-like filmic quality of 24p movies.
Sport:
Fast-action sports, such as the live football broadcast of the FA Cup quarter-final between Fulham and Manchester United on ITV 1, benefited from the higher motion resolution that [100Hz Motion Plus] brings to the screen. The definition of the running players, the individual figures in the crowd, and the words on the advertising boards were noticeably less blurry if [100Hz Motion Plus] was engaged.
We still witnessed a few instances of tearing interpolation artefacts (even when the least aggressive "Clear" setting was selected), but to be fair these were few and far between... in our opinion a worthwhile tradeoff for the welcome boost in motion resolution.
I have a 42" Panasonic plasma in the lounge connect to MySky HDi and a 52" Samsung LE52A558P LCD in the cinema room.
I know jack about tuning tvs etc but the plasma is a nice warm picture and the big LCD loks nice playing some full HD ripped bluray movies from the PC,xbox360 and PS3.
