You can fix the widescreen issue by removing Nvidia drivers 190.38 (if your using them), chaning to widescreen, exiting - which fixes it to default 16:9.
Biggest problem/only problem is the lack of PAL (ie 50Hz) profiles. I believe these can be added in, but because its so new, there's not much info around yet. Using the default 60Hz profiles not only makes a mess of the picture (ie converting PAL WTV format) by changing it to 60Hz, but it screws up the sound, which pretty much makes it unusable...
ahhh.. that explains the horrible jumping it was introducing. Hope someone sorts that out fairly quickly.

FWIW, I've converted a few TV recordings to the 480p wmv format, and they're OK (~900MB for 47 minutes). The compression is quite good, with few visible compression artifacts. It is relatively easy to scroll through the recording and split/crop out the adverts.
If anyone's created some better output plugins for the freeview DVB-T format, please feel free to share.

Yep, I've noticed a strange blurring with fast movements in the output files. The 480p .wmv output file is at 29fps, I guess it must have been changed in the conversion process.
Is the broadcast Freeview DVB-T frame rate 24, 25 or 30fps? I can't tell from my recorded .wtv files.
Asmodeus: Good stuff. I believe one can use Handbrake too. I've seen someone on here mention it anyway
yeah, Handbrake is the best to recode the MPEG4 Freeview|HD files with AAC-LATM audio. Nothing else i've found does it as well in one go as Handbrake yet.
Can you please either link of supply your settings within Handbrake (I assume latest final version) as everytime I attempt to re-encode with the app, it appears to complete without errors, but will not playback at all. And have tried a number of different settings.
I have given up on the Handbrake forum as I find it very haphazdly organised with no decent search facilities for determining NZ FreeviewHD setup. Have also tried their WIKI, or guide; can't remember which. Probably start a new thread would be best if you are to do it. You would definitely get my thanks.
PS. Do you remove commercials before or after re-encoding? Cheers.
