Gannet: Just to follow up on this issue. I finally got the opportunity to test ditching the Audigy and going with the motherboard sound. I have sound! So, the issue is with the Audigy.

Now I need to figure out how to get sound passthrough from a A8N5X to my 9800 GT? open to ideas on that one.

Many (but not all) newer generation NVidia cards have onboard SPDIF header pins so you can connect a cable from your motherboard to the video card.

Thanks Steve, but I'm unable to find any onboard SPDIF header pins on this motherboard. As a result of that, I used the Audigy as it had SPDIF header pins (even though it took me a while to sort out what ones to use).
