Mutly: This thread has made me all nervous now. I am running a 8500GT silent (passive cooling) in an LC-17 case and it has been running perfectly for over a year (touch wood). I hadn't read about the issues with 1080i under newer MP versions. I assume you mean 1.1 or later? Will have to go and have a read. I dont want to upgrade my hardware again if I dont have to.

Edit: Read the relevant MP threads. I am running MP 1.0.2 on the 8500GT and don't have the stuttering issues, but i am beginning to wonder if this is what is playing a part in the Audio/video sync issues I am having with TV3??? I wonder if I can borrow a 9500GT from somewhere...

MP1.0.1 and above have higher hardware requirements

Hit SHIFT+! and see what your jitter and dropped frames are.
My jitter usually settles down to between 0-3 and drop frames is always zero.

Ascent has this Asus 9500GT which is passively cooled and has HDMI out. I'm tempted at the moment to swap my HD4550 for it to see if the nVidia sorts out my stuttering problem. Every 3-4 minutes I get a second of video freeze (audio continues fine) but I'm not sure if a change in video card will make any difference.

EVR is 50, dropped 20 and jitter 0. I have no idea how to interpret these though :)
The figures are actually pretty consistant across all channels.

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

basically jitter i think is sync, and dropped frames occurs if your setup aint fast enough. occasionally you'll get a dropped frame when changing channels, but it shouldnt drop any more frames when you are watching something. the fps should stay between 49.5 - 50.5 fps

I needed a low profile card so had no option but to get a fan cooled card :-(. It's a EN9400GT and it's stupidly loud. A silent low profile htpc is getting pretty hard to achieve.

My Main system is running a Gigabyte 8600GT passive. Can't remember which version of MP I'm running but I'm not having any issues. I will be doing an upgrade soon so I'll guess I'll find out. Any how my 8600GT is ok so far. Touch wood (but don't touch the card, ouch!).

my onboard graphics does an excellent job of tv3 with mediaportal, along with any other HD content i can throw at it, as long as gaming isnt a priority then a 780G chipset will suffice perfectly

The picture shows it's fanned: same on the Asus site. Very similar to the one I went with, but mine doesn't have native HDMI. Mine is very quiet; the stock CPU fan is much louder. Next on the to-do list: get a bracket for my old Zalman 7600alcu cooler.

@mcraenz -I didn't even touch my card! Also, any chance of a GPU -Zalman or similar- fan fitting?

It looks like they've changed the picture, they had one without a fan before (lucky I haven't gotten around to ordering one yet!)

Hmmm. Could well be that sideport memory making the difference. Other 780G folks have had difficulties, but it seems you and I are ok with the GPM model sideported motherboard.
