Dawg: I use GB PVR because I have a popcorn hour - No complaints about gb pvr

Me too and I am unlikely to upgrade to Win7 because I am not entirely sure my USB-UIRT will have drivers (which I use to change channels on my TCL cable box). I also have a DVB-T card (Nova 500) so theoretically I can record 3 channels (one TCL, 2 DVB-T) while watching a fourth though this scenario has never come up.

I use the Popcorn Hour to playback all content apart from TVNZ HD when I am forced to use the PC since the PCH doesn't support the AAC-HE audio.

Yes all of that. The only relevant format it doesn't support is anything (usually H.264 files) with AAC-HE LATM audio - just get no sound which is a nuisance.

Very happy with Windows 7 MC. Has been rock solid so far *frantically touches wood!

Does almost everything out of the box (mkv support not so good) and has high wife approval.

no problem with 5.1 channel AAC rips (so long as they are -LE or HE not in LATM)
No support for live streaming of HDTV out of the box but I think with the combination of gbpvr with the PCH as the front end, it can be done.

Yup - I installed the Beta for Windows 7 ages ago and did the fresh install of Ultimate this weekend just past... And there was no doubt in my mind I was going to reinstall MediaPortal.

My setup is MediaPortal 1.0.2 with StreamedMP, myTrailers, XMLTV grabber, Shortcutter (to recognise all my Hauppage remote buttons)... it's freaking amazing.

And yes, I did check out W7MC... just didn't seem to cut it... wasn't as visually stimulating in my opinion. Plus - as I said before the 'customisability' of MediaPortal made it a no-brainer for me.

Does Win7 provide a full EPG? I currently using gbpvr have a full epg using a combination of Reven's xmltvnz and also the hosted epg from the DVB-S service (though I could just stick with the latter).

I had heard that Win7 ME doesn't have that capability but could be wrong

It does via tools like BSE.

Edit sorry should add that is for DVB-T. If you have DVB-S then it gets the epg over the air now so it just works out of the box.

To my knowledge, using the default with no third party apps, it is just now & next.

Since I record both DVB-T and TCL cable, looks like I would have to get 2 EPG's to make it work and some hacking. Since I already do that now, not sure there is a compelling reason to upgrade the PVR to Win7.
