Hi all - aside from the banter, this is an excellent thread.

I'd just like to add my support for not "hacking" Windows 7 by way of codec packs. Steve is right when he says that adding codecs to fix what is essentially ATI's problem is a stop-gap measure. I think you should be putting the pressure on them to release the correct drivers. The way to do this is via their forums.

Has anyone tried the divx media foundation based pack since it was released for mkv support?
ie http://www.divx.com/en/windows-7

I'm installing a new tv on the weekend and a hdmi card in the htpc (ati 4350... though don't do DVB-T here so not a worry re the interlaced h.264 bizzo).

Thinking I might try to switch over to it as the shark pack ain't the go anymore and I want mkv on my 360.
Or does it still have issues as aluded to earlier in this thread?

The problem is no one really know whether the problem is actually with ATI drivers or with Microsoft's codec implementation. All software has bugs and Microsoft isn't immune I'm not sure why people think Microsoft's codec will be perfect.

Has anyone tried an Intel onboard video chipet (G45) which supports DXVA-HD with freeview and Windows 7 MC?

Friend said the only extra install he does in Win7 is custom DivX 7 install and only selects the "DivX plus tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7"

I believe this is the media foundation stuff you are talking about.
