WaffleMakerMan: Is anybody using a HD 5450 (the cheapest card out) with mediaportal? can it deinterlace 1080i?

I don't have a 5450 but I know the issue you are referring to. I'm not sure whether you know this, but the developers may "fix" the issue in version 1.1.0. Link:

Oh thanks 4 that, Its looking good if they remove that ati "fix", it shouldn't have been there in the first place really it was ati's drivers which I believe may have been fixed anyhow, bring on RC2!

Im wondering if I should go for a 9500GT and be safe but the passive cooling of the 5450 is tempting too...

The ATI driver fix may have come in in either Catalyst 10.1 or 10.2 - I am not sure. At present I'm still using 9.4 and not willing to risk any upgrade that *might* break my HTPC. All I can say is if you go for the 5450 then make sure you do your research. A quick Google reveals there are plenty of people still complaining of HTPC issues with 10.2... the MP devs probably won't remove the hack unless they are certain that the issue is fixed. In other words, I don't recommend the 5450 unless MP 1.1.0 final comes out with the hack removed and most users are happy.
