A couple of possibilities:

1. Try disabling cpu frequency downclocking (some report that the cool'n'quiet stuff can cause issues when it transitions cpu clock speed. Power options, set to "performance" should do the trick.)

2. Maybe try this app to see if you have general latency issues caused by a dodgy driver.

I have similar issues with video stuttering, only really during Live HD TV and recorded HD TV. I just change my graphics card from ATI HD5770 to nVidia GTX260 with the same issue. The PC should be fast enough.
I have also changed the HDMI cable just in case... still no good. It mainly seems to happen during 'Deal or no deal' & 'Home & away' (Maybe its just aussie shows on mine?)

It feels like a media centre issue, just not sure how to fix it!!
There are people all over the internet with this problem and no solution yet... it sux

Did you reinstall your OS afresh after changing your graphics card? Or just uninstall drivers & install Nvidia ones? If so, you may find a complete redo could well solve your issues.

Also, you download an all-in-one player like GOM & see if it occurs with one using proprietary codecs.

I had longtime problems with stuttering which I have just solved by replacing my HVR-2200 with a NOVA-TD-500.

Try this scanchannelsBDA utility on your signal: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=18418

If you see dips, you may have a dodgy HVR-2200, like I seem to have had.

1gkar - I ran a driversweep to remove all ATI drivers so should be ok? (hopefully)

Dale77 - I ran scanchannelsDBA and it was jumping between 25% - 100% (mostly 25%) so a new UHF aerial is on the way. With the ATI card it wasn't recording the glitches(the times I checked), they would not repeat if played back therefore I assumed the GC was at fault, Must have been both. The nvidia card seems to only have the bad signal glitches so hopefully new aerial will fix my issues.

All I can tell you is some years ago, when I changed from ATI to Nvidia, I got the odd weird glitch in the system. I posted on various forums with no success. Then I had to reformat & reinstall for some reason, & the glitches went away.

I just wondered if you ever got to the bottom of this annoying issue???

I too had a similar issue for nearly a month, and only after hours and hours of playing around did I get to the bottom of the issue... or at least what I THINK was the issue.

I did god knows how many re-installs, but in the end, I think the issue was my WD Caviar Green 1TB hard disk. I ended up buying a Caviar Black drive and the issue went away. Also, the issue did not occur with my older 250GB Seagate drive.

The kicker is I don't actually know it the drive IS actually faulty, or just not suitable for VMC. I have run all the WD diags on the drive and they are coming up normal...

So go figure, all it took was countless hours and about $180 for a new drive!

I had problems with crap performance with the operating system on a green drive. Going black for the OS went a long way to making the machine usable. 8 more gigs would do even better I think tho.

The green drives are quiet but just seem to end up with the HDD light on solidly when doing anything, the black has it pulsing and making noise like I would expect a HDD to do.

Acoustically I liked the WD Green drive, however you are right, this came at the cost of the performance.

Having said that, I'd used the drive in my HTPC for several months without problems, so it seems strange that all of a sudden I had issues with stuttering video.

The frustrating thing is that I still have this drive, still in the box sitting on my desk. How can I claim it is faulty when all the diagnostic tests say that it isn't?

My friend had a problem with audio stutter on Vista. ie youtube, windows media, etc. would every 10 seconds or so repeat about a quarter second worth of audio.

The mouse sort of froze at the time too.

That problem was caused by McAfee virus checker. Replaced it with Microsoft Security Essentials and no more stutter.

Hi I had the same problem with Video and Recorded TV stuttering constantly. I ran Windows 7 and Windows Home Server with no problems for 6 months and when I installed my new TV Card 'Play Ready' installed and the stutter started. It has taken me a while to isolate it, but when I uninstalled Play Ready my video stutter stopped.

Ah, now there is a point. I will un-install this tonight and report back.

I assume that this is able to be un-installed in the add / remove programs section in the control panel?

Yes you uninstall 'Play Ready' in the add/ remove programs.

Tried with no AV, and I dont think I let it install play ready when I saw how much it wanted to download and it wasnt offpeak when I was installing it so canceled. No idea what it does from the vauge description they put.

I dont know if the green drive caused the stutters since I have given away my PCI DVB tuner to a mate who had nothing to watch TV on, but the green to black swap was the best upgrade on the PC. Stupid thing is the thruput on the drive is not really any different.

Same video stuttering problem on my system which I put down to the increased load running RC1 thru RC4. Though the processor load was 15%, I am running 4GB of RAM (3.2 usable in 32-bit) and there was plenty of available disk space.
However on reading brucej's quote above I decided to check it out. The problems seemed to roughly coincide with the installation of 'Play Ready' when I looked back at the installation date. So I uninstalled it and haven't had a video glitch or stutter since. Don't know what MS are playing at, all I can think is it's a DRM thing they have inserted in the video chain that is supposed to sit quietly in the background but doesn't.
