richms: The inbuilt stuff was very underwhelming when I tried it out. Not sure if it is a limitation of the TV or the upnp media server, but it was slow and annoying to find anything on it in a large music collection. Limited formats too.

I was considering a WD TV live, but have had no feedback on its UI yet.

I don't own a WD TV but I've used them a lot and am planning to get one at some point, it's easily the most complete one out there, if it had wifi and played WMVs it'd be perfect. The UI whilst not very flash looking is very simple and intuitive, even to not so tech savvy people. One main menu with movies, photos, music and settings and then they just open up to the folders where your files are and you play them, couldn't be simpler. You can make it a little more fancy if you want but for most people just 2 or 3 pushes of the select button will get them doing what they want.

Desktop: i7 920, GTX 275, asus P6T, antec 1200, 6gb ram, 1tb spinpoint f1, 1tb spinpoint f3, Logitech Z2300, Zero DAC, Shure SRH440
Laptop: Toshiba satellite, T5300, Go 7300
Home Theatre: 32" loewe CRT, Harmon kardon amp, dvd player, image 418 speakers, rega planar 25 turntable :)

The WD TV Live arrived next day from Ascent (gotta love those guys, very efficient and best prices around) and was installed and working within the hour. Very impressive and can now stream all of my media from my NAS and Window PCs through the TV. No need to upgrade it - which is probably a good thing! UI is clear and pretty easy to find your way around. Still working out the best way to make it nice and simple to use for the rest of the family but I think that has as much to do with the folder arrangement of the media. YouTube videos load clearly and quickly - the HD stuff is pretty impressive. Can't stream some stuff to TV due to DRM restrictions. Searching is a pain using the on-screen keyboard. Anyway, the WD TV Live has been a revelation so thanks again for all you input.

So it just browses folders and doesnt index the music or anything?
