Hmmm...thanks. The issue I still have though is that Windows Movie Maker transcodes these files to 30fps, with apparently no way to over-ride it, and no other software I can find will work with these .WTV files.

Might have to have another look at Mediaportal and see if it's any less flakey these days, since it uses a different container.

I had endless issues with my trying to convert wtv files with anything in x64 Win7 too. I fixed it by buying a 750gb hdd (adding to my 500 and 250 ones) and not bothering with conversion. My 750 is nearly full after 2 years, so i'll be looking for a 2Tb one soon!

Nope, not for me. Nothing but errors. Sometimes while analyising, but always when converting.

Errors are kinda generic too, like "it MIGHT be this, or it could be this....".

smac: The whole reason I'm actually doing this is cause of the weird output I'm getting converting some .wtv files to .wmv using Windows Movie Maker.

I thought it had simply killed the audio sync. However after a bit of faffing about with a couple of full length files I believe what it has done is produced a .wmv with the wrong frame rate. So at the beginning the audio is in sync, but before long it's out. After an hour or so it's something like 70 seconds out! Weird considering the source is 7MC, it's converted on Win 7 using a MS product, and there are no frame rate choices in the software.

If anyone knows how to re-jig frame rate in a .wmv I'm all ears. Research continues.....

I haven't had any trouble using Windows Live Movie Maker to make .wmv's. Audio sync is fine. I was actually kind of surprised how easy it was with my .wtv files.

The preview version of Windows Live Movie Maker has more flexibility when exporting video (tweaking the bitrate, resolution etc.) but it doesn't work well with .wtv files at the moment (or at least on my PC compared to the current release)

Hi,
VideoRedo TV Suite (www.videoredo.com) supports reading WTV files and transcoding them to other formats. The currently released version (600) has trouble with LATM AAC used in most stations and this causes a crash, however TV3 works fine because of the AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) sound track.

I raised a support issue with VideoRedo about this and sent them some sample WTV files. They have internally fixed the issue and when version 601 is released I expect it should work fine. They sent me an alpha version of 601 and so far it has worked fine for me and the software is pretty easy to use.

You have to pay for the product of course - I chose ease of use over free solutions that tend to be unstable and difficult to configure - been there - done that.

Hope this info is of some help.

What platform are you using? I am looking for someone that has it working on Win7 64bit.  MM is defaulting to 30fps regardless what quality/size I choose, so really not sure how I can change that. They really have dumbed it down too much. I know they aim at basic users, but there should be SOME options!

Yup I too am after ease of use - however I'll not be paying for a solution that might work. Until there's somebody that has it working for all NZ DVB-T stations, on a 64 bit Win7 system, I'm not keen to pay.

As an alternative I'm having another look at the latest version of Mediaportal.......looking good so far for a change, and my linux box plays the .TS files with no conversion necessary.......slightly annoying that this is avoiding the issue rather than solving it though.....

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Windows 7, 32 bit.

The properties for my exported videos say that they came out at 29fps:

That was 480p (720x480)... but this is 720p(1280x720):
