The Samsung is a good choice, nice set, nice price.

Is that an actual picture of your room ?

If so, pulling the main speakers away from the cabinet will improve performance.

You do not want the main and centre speakers in a line but in a curve so that each speaker is the same distance from your ears.

Thanks mate im always up for input. Yeah that is my setup. I will definitely give the floorstanders a move and see how they go. I have also moved the sub to the back corner from the room seems better than front center like that. Im also working on a cooling system for the cabinet using PC case fans powered by USB from the TV.   So lots of mods to come..lol

I purchased this week a Samsung series 5 C550 plasma 50inch tv. For a low price set it seems to have a very good picture and do all the right things. It cost $1600 at a national chain store sale. For the money I thought it was a good buy. This is the first Samsung product we have bought as the other tvs are Sony and LG.It is only being used to watch random programs and for two teenagers to connect their xbox and PS3 to.
I did not do much reserch other than compare prices for compatible sets.I rightly or wrongly thought that I should get a reasonable picture seeing that it  is 1080p hi def and after setting it up(very simple) we have not been disappointed.I had a limited budget available and we wanted a 50inch size.
However,if cost is not the overiding factor,it would be very sensable to take in some known material to play on several sets.Even in a shop were the lighting is not conductive to good viewing.the conditions should be the same for all sets tried.PreviouslyI spent two hours listening to three sets of speakers when upgrading the sould system and that was time very well spent.
The Samsung has a good selection of sockets,4 HDMI,USB,Network etc and an optical feed to the home theatre amp for surround sound.
Good luck with youjr purchase.

As an aside, popping your sub in the corner may result in low frequency performance that is less than ideal...
Sure some people encourage corner loading of subs to boost a tiny sub. But for anything larger than a passive sub (often found in a home theatre in the box setup) - I'd try to avoid corners.
Try putting on some bass heavy music, then place the sub where you would normally listen to your system from (literally - right where you sit) and then crawl around on the floor, seeing where it sounds best. That's the best place to position your sub.

I got the LA46C650 on Sunday from The Good Guys in Botany Downs for $1980. They had a price guarantee which gave me a refund of $91 (Bond & Bond has it for $1850). I think it is amazing! The Mother-in-Law bought the 40" one about 1 month ago and I fell in love. Next on the list - Blu-Ray player!

Hey, if your looking for a blu-ray player I would highly recommend getting a PlayStation 3. We have had one for a while now and use it as a media center. You can easily transfer files onto it from the PC. Also it has just had a software update so that it can play 3D movies if you ever get a 3D tv.

Not rude at all. I took my macbook in when I was buying my sony bravia and the shop had no problems hooking it in at all.

Do any of you guys Samsung (or other brand) Plasma TVs buzz? Mine does. I can hear it from my sofa during quiet periods during a show, but when the receiver's on I can't hear it.

All plasmas buzz, its the power supply, listen carefully and the level of buzz will change depending on what is on the screen.

Of course the buzz level varies from brand to brand, even model to model within the brand.

The trick is finding one that doesn't annoy you too much.

Yes, I just got a 58" Samsung Plasma and it does buzz... I knew that plasmas all had this, but this is bordering on distracting in very quiet sections. I may have to go back to the store at some stage and stick my ear up against a bunch of models to see if it's out of the ordinary.

Cheers - N

It really does seem to be a symptom of plasmas...
But if you try to listen in-store, you may not hear it as it requires a very quiet environment.
Heck, at home, you'd have to have the TV at a level that would be close to impractical to hear the show you're watching...
As I sit here now, the TV is turned right down, but there's no way I could hear any buzzing, as my laptop is on my lap, and I'm encoding video - hence the fans are running at a relatively high speed. It's all par for the course me thinks.

I'm trying to decide if the buzzing is more than I can tolerate. It bugs me, but I only hear it during the quiet parts of shows.

btw J B Hifi wouldn't play anything other than their single demo disk. I purchased mine from L V Martin, who'd play anything I want, from any source. Much better service.

It might depend on the sales droid you get.  I had no problem doing this at JB when I wanted to make sure the DVD I was buying was multi region.  They let me play all of my test disks.

Yeah Panasonic Plasma, it buzzes.
As others have said though, you'd have to be watching pictures only with no sound in near silence, or standing 1m from screen sort of thing for it to overpower whatever you are watching.
