Have you set the post-overlap time to 10 minutes? Mine hasn't missed the end of a program for quite a while now.
The program skipping sounds like you lost the signal for a while - 10 mins perhaps. Does the program synopsis (i-Box) say "Part Rec" or some such? Was this a background recording, or were you watching it at the time?
I just had a curious one. I was watching CNN, and hit the R button. Went and did something else, came back and watched it up to 26 minutes. Then went to the Guide, booked another program, which had also already started. Went to watch the rest of the CNN show. It said last viewed was 26 minutes, but hitting the Enter or Play button does nothing. In fact, can't do anything aside from hit the Planner button to get out of it - GoBack doesn't work either. So now I can't watch it at all. Hopefully I can delete it. Annoyingly, it was just getting to the good part when I needed to do something else!
You definitely have to check your bookings every day, to make sure they don't drop out.
JohnPorter: So you can see the missing time when you rewind back? That was never clear to me.
Go to Active>System Setup>Recording Setup to change the overlap times ("add to recording"). I have mine set to 2 mins before and 10 mins after.
Thanks for this info. I did not notice this function initially , maybe it was a software update?
I can see the missing time (that was skipped over) by rewinding. It is like there is something at a certain timepoint in the recording that causes it to jump to a future part in the program. But, if i rewind after the 'jump forward', then, i can view the content that was jumped.
Ok, I had thought you were saying there was a 10 min gap in the recording.
I have seen that skipping happen on dvd playback (MP2 compression) when there is a disc error. There is apparently something in the MP2 format that says where the next piece of information is, and when that gets corrupted, you get skips. Maybe MySky uses a similar compression format, and a brief reception issue resulted in corruption of the signal recorded. Does a flock of birds dance on your dish at 6:02 every day, or maybe a plane fly low overhead and interrupt the signal momentarily? Could even be the dish slightly out of alignment - have you checked signal strength?
The overlaps times are in the hardcopy documentation, and have been there all along.
There are several things in the doc that are not otherwise evident, eg bookmarks, slo-mo, displaying the time during playback, skipping to the beginning or end of the program... The best time to review the doc is after you are familiar with the machine. I find if I go back and re-read it I pick up more things I didn't realise.

Not changed my series link overmuch, but I did notice that my Dragon''s Den last Thursday failed (probably because of rain) and it didn't pick up the following week.
I added it back in but it couldn't pick up the series link (data not available - try again later) and I haven't got around to trying later as yet.
Has there been another software release? What changes are in there?
There hasn't been a decoder software change. All I can say is that a small amount of data that was only reaching Auckland customers through the satellite is now also reaching customers south of Taupo.
South of Taupo, eh? I take it that means the change applies only to the "problem channels" TNVZ snd Sky Sport. I haven't noticed any difference, but I don't do much on those channels. One News, Joey and Lost have been ok since the big change.
JAG and Monk can now be series linked (long before last wednesday though), which is good, and they both correctly got the easter hiatus in those programs.
Darren Brown has come back to life by way of series link, presumably because the series is being shown again. Just (re)watched one last night where the end had been chopped off the previous time. Which brings up a question - if I have something on series link, and the series finishes, how long does the series link hang around? Five years later, it spots reruns and start recording again? That would explain why mine was booking Animal Planet on sundays - if someone (previous owner? techie experimenting?) had set a series link for it and then couldn't remove it. I don't think it's a problem - just curious. They are easy to delete. might even be a useful feature...

Not quite... hypothetically, the series link "process" in MySKY might be crashing because of the lack of certain data elements in the Wellington/South Island feed. This would explain why rebooting the box would cause it to discover bookings that hadn't previously shown in the planner. If viewers in that region were now finding that they didn't have to reboot to get series links then this might show that the extra data element was helping.

I understand that you have to have either a booking or a series link programme in the planner to keep the series link alive. If the series has finished then there will be no booking so the only way to keep the series link alive would be to keep one of the programmes in the series. If you do this and another programme turns up with the same series ID then it will be booked. Unless you get a box with another person's programmes or bookings actually showing in the planner I don't see that you would be able to pick up their links, so this seems unlikely.

Ok. I haven't found anything lately changing because of a reboot. The reboot was mainly to clean up after deleting a ..searching line. Sometimes bookings don't show up right away, but a few days later they do. Did a reboot the other day, as I hadn't done one for a while and I had deleted multiple advance bookings, some with series link active. Nothing changed when I rebooted, so that was comforting.

I am sure that is not the case. I had no bookings showing for Darren Brown, JAG or Monk, and no recorded programs of them either. Bookings then showed up out of the blue. In all three cases, I had series link on the whole time. During the two or three week hiatus for JAG and Monk, for example, there was no advance booking, and I had watched and deleted all recorded copies of them.
Hi guys......question for you.....i'm moving apartment to a new building where sky digital is in every apartment and paid for by the body corporate (not complaining!). Apparantly they have one big dish on the roof. I rang Sky today and the girl said that the new building's satellite had a single LNB - when they installed my MySky here they changed my single one to a dual LNB. According to the girl, MySky can run off a single LNB and the dual one is just a backup in case the other one fails. She said when i moved in they'd just have to make a change to the account settings to run my MySky off a single LNB - she said to just plug it in and if it didn't work, they'd make the change......wouldn't need to come out etc, and at no charge. All sounds too good to be true, so i thought I'd check and see if anyone knows any differently?? Or, if anyone is living somewhere with a shared dish and single LNB with MySky running. Also, what is a LNB?? Thanks, Hilary
I thought the two LNBs were for the two tuners. But if a bunch of decoders can all use one LNB then that doesn't make sense, unless it's a signal strength issue. Maybe the extra one is for the new satellite?
What's a LNB? Type "define: LNB" in a google search box to find out.
All SKY services are on one polarity on the satellite so it's not necessary to have two throats to support two tuners. MySKY can run off a single or dual throat LNB : you just have to split the signal from the dish to feed the two tuner inputs. The two different LNB types do require different LNB frequencies to be set up in the decoder, however.
SKY customers currently get their TV (most of the time anyway) from the Optus B1 satellite. Each dish has an LNB device in the centre with a single throat aimed at the B1 satellite. Sometime soon SKY hopes that Optus will replace the B1 satellite with the new D1 satellite in the same position. In a year or so Optus will launch their D2 satellite to sit in a slightly different position (about 4 degrees further round the equator I think). To take advantage of the second satellite without having to repoint every dish SKY have developed a dual-throat LNB that can be aligned to see both satellites simultaneously. Single-throat LNBs are being replaced by dual-throat LNBs as technicians visit, e.g. when a MySKY decoder is installed.
