HDMI cable to TV - the computer sound card is a realtek HD card - when I switch to the AC3 feed, the TV displays a message to the effect "Unsupported Audio Source"
Sorry I can't be much help here, I am still using analog audio cables to my TV and both AC3Filter and FFDShow both automatically downconvert. What is happening is that the AC3 is just being passed through the HDMI cable but your TV can't deal with it. So somewhere in the process the AC3 needs to be downconverted to PCM stereo.
The one tip I can give you now is, try FFDShow and in the settings for FFDShow, select the Output option from the left hand list. Here, make sure that passthrough is disabled for AC3 via HDMI/SPDIF. This might force the signal to be re-encoded.
Thanks for the advice - I changed the MPEG/AC3 Audio Decoder from Microsoft DTD/DVD to the MPC - MPA decoder, which I could then set: decode to speakers = stereo.
Now I can select the AC3 audio stream for TV3 - which is then decoded to stereo & pops out of the TV via the HDMI lead.
Crisis averted!!
Does anyone know what TV3 did to break the AAC stream - hopefully none of the other chanels will follow suit!!
I don't suppose anyone has found and actual fix for this (rather than just the AC3 workaround)? Running AC3 all the time on TV3 through a HT receiver sounds terrible unless the source programs also have AC3 soundtracks.
Nice find! The fix works perfectly here. I'd been resorting to playing back recorded TV3 stuff through another player (Totalmedia Theatre) which wasn't showing the same problems.
I hadn't actually seen the issue with live TV, which I guess means I just never actually watch live TV :)
I imagine a future version of the Monogram codec will fix the problem. I only noticed the upgrade to MP 1.1.2 in the weekend so I will try aac audio again and see if i is working better.
I've upgraded to MediaPortal 1.1.2 and also searched around for the Monogram codec, the latest version appears to be the one supplied with MediaPortal - no joy with the AAC audio stream.
I did read some entries on the MediaPortal forum about a modified version of the Mongram codec that resolved some issues with AAC that were being experienced by Brazilian users - but I was not able to track down a copy for testing.
I tried the prefer AC3 option and it fixed the stuttering on TV3, however it stuffed all other channels, they just show a still picture when changed to, no sound.
What codecs are you all running? I've gt a mix of ffdshow, DivX & Monogram for AAC.

Try changing the AC3 codec to something other than ffdshow. I changed to the PowerDVD 9 AC3 codec and I don't have the channel changing problem anymore.
