As I say at the end of the first set of instructions, the remote tab is irrelevant unless you download your data. It sounds like you intend to do that, so yes you would need to set up automatic downloads and here is how to do it. After you finished the first set of instructions...

1. Go to the third "remote" tab.
2. Enter the full URL of the EPG source (eg. http://www.mysite.com/TVguide.xml).
3. Click "get now!" to download a fresh guide. Give it a few minutes to download and import the guide. If the process fails [almost] immediately then it is likely that you have made a mistake in the URL. If the process fails to import the data then it is possible that the source EPG format is incompatible with MediaPortal.
4. To schedule the guide to be downloaded automatically, tick the "enabled" checkbox in the "schedule" section.
5. Either select the first "scheduled at time" option and choose a download time when you know the computer is likely to be on (the guide will not be downloaded if the computer is off at the download time), or select the second option if you would rather just have the data downloaded when you start your HTPC.

All done!

You are awesome. I haven't found anywhere that hosts the EPG, so im relying on that little comment in the XMLTV plugin on the media server:
"The server will check every minute if there is a new tvguide.xml, when it detects it will import the new EPG"
I added a 13 hour buffer in XMLTV too, seemed to sync up after that.
I also have setup EPG Collector 3.
So, I think it is working for now.

You've been a great help sir.
