Just so you are aware I calibrate the high end and pro panels for Panasonic and take what I do as a business very seriously.

Are you saying that Panasonic pays you for your services?

If you buy a VX100 model 50/65", yes I calibrate these models for Panasonic as part of the isf modes they have. That calibration is part of the Panel price. Travel is additional.

I can also supply precalibrated pre runin Panasonic panels. Saying anymore would be breaking forum rules. But since you asked.

Hi all

So I purchased the Panasonic and am very happy with it except for one issue!

Here I was hoping to be able to plug my USB stick in and watch AVI's but I don;t seem to be having any luck.

The thumbnail shows and the video plays for about 3 seconds then stops. Then the TV comes up with a "cannot read file" message.

Any suggestions? I have read of other people with the issue and one answer has make sure the file has the correct codecs, but how do I know what is required?

Of course codecs could be an issue, but if its starting to actually play then stops the first thing I would suspect would be the USB stick. Try another make/model/brand and see if that works.
USB sticks can be funny things sometimes....

What are you using to convert your files? Or are they downloads?

I paid $2,300 from HN including delivery a few weeks ago. I believe DSE may have had it under $2,200 in the last week or so?

DSE's website says they have one store in the South Island (Riccarton) with stock.
Of course, you could go into any store (Smiths City / Harvey's etc) show them the website and get that price. Delivery, will of course cost extra - even if they say they're throwing it in, they're still just 'moving money around' elsewhere within the deal...

I've had a similar problem playing USB AVI's on DVD player's. Found the problem to be the frame size of the AVI movie. Once I re-converted the movie so the frame size was 640 x 352 they all played. Have no idea if this is the same issue with the TV but might be worth a shot.

Yes PS3 has this issue too. There are standards for 'formal'/traditional AVI file types but there are lots of other ways of creating these files.

Computer software/media players etc seem flexible to most but a lot of devices take exception to any non compliant file types. The PS3 media server etc type software gets around this by converting and streaming compliant types, but yeah the only other way to do it is to do as above and try to convert to an acceptable output file.

You need an "AVI Converter" do a Google search for one that best suits your needs. For freeware you could try Auto Gordian Knot 2.55. Its no longer supported but may work enough for what you need.
