Spyware: Bluray output is typically 1080p24 (23.98 Hz) or 1080i60 (59.97 Hz), there is no 50 Hz timing inherent with bluray. Only 50 Hz HD is broadcast TV.

Your second link was interesting. All the 50hz material (1080i) looked as if it probably originated in the TV world. And just to confuse the issue some more, his comment -

"And yes the European Panasonic BD35 will play any 50hz material (but the USA BD35 will not"

Clevedon, I didn't notice if the Avatar disc was 3D.
