Noel Leeming is barely adequate if you have done your research, know exactly what you want and they have that exact model at a good price, and you go in and simply pick it up and pay. I say barely, because it's an uphill climb afterwards if the product fails etc.
However, if you are rely on their salesdroids for any sory of advice and information relevant to your decision, you are taking a big risk. My experience is they aren't well trained, don't know much about many of the products they push beyond whiteware and vaccum cleaners, and will say just about anything to close a sale.
I went in with someone who was looking to purchase pre-Christmas (they are completely non-technical and asked me to come with them), and I was simply astounded with some of the nonsense statements the chap who came over to "assist" made. It wasn't just puffery to close a sale, they clearly knew next to nothing about the product, but didn't want to admit that.
The problem was simply that no other stores stocked the speakers except Harvey Norman which were twice as expensive.
I would go some where else if it was possible!
I'm guessing Dick Smith, Powerstore, LV Martin etc can all get the product you were looking for? What speakers / hifi kit were you looking for? I'm also guessing that HNorman's would mainly stock speakers that Noel Leeming wouldn't be able to stock? (Theophany / Polk etc.) What did you end up with BTW?

Odd that they'd be twice as expensive? Then again, there's Wharfdale Diamonds... then there's Wharfdale Diamonds! Diamond 9.0's, 9.1's, 9.5's, 9.6's... then the 10.1's, 10.5's, 10.6's... There are a lot to choose from. What ones did you and your party get? What sort of amplifier are you using to drive them?

I guess that goes for all of the chain stores. But then you can strike someone who knows what they are doing, and even enjoys it. Always had good service from NL. They were really good when the AV connectors developed a fault on a samsung TV.

9.5's, got a Sony 85watt (sounded pretty nice) with them.
Six month back had a NL voucher and decided to buy a Clock/iphone dock for family member. Lots of options on display but few powered up... and I wanted to 'hear' them working.
Spotty kid/rep asks why???? But I convince him I need to listen to buy. He proceeds to use the same power pack plugging from 1 unit to another for me to listen too. No comparative testing here...
Some didn't work, some sounded like crap and some were. Whilst he was away 'looking for some better options' I took the chance to look at the bases of the units. Some weren't compatible with the powerpack he'd tried to use (1 size fits all right? who cares about polarity). Began checking with appropriate powerpacks.
I tried to explain this to him when he got back... but hey I was the customer he was the geek what would I know. Made my selection, pushed for a good price, got change on the voucher. Left.

I got an ipod dock radio thing there for a family member, got it home and got it out before giving it to them.
Had they been powered up would have never got it. The radio in it was so inadiquite to receive anything, the clock on it was barely readable from even a few degrees off axis and the remote was more directional than the one on the DSE freeview box. Back it went.
Their fault for providing a craphouse instore display IMO, so no guilt there.
