freitasm: Ok... I think will order myself one then. The auto switch is the thing - we only have one remote control around and WAF would go up greatly if no messing around with input sources directly on TV.

Thanks all.

Looks like Ive come in a bit late here to save the day, but these pigtail HDMI switchers really are best auto switchers I recommend, they work a treat and saves buying an extra HDMI cable.

They come as 2x1 and 3x1

Ordered one yesterday, got the shipping confirmation today. I hope it's here tomorrow so I can play a bit.

Ok, got the HDMI switcher from http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/product/572/HDMI-Switcher/HDMI-Switcher/ here today.

Easy to use, basically plug and play. It works ok between a TiVo and a Windows Media Centre. The TiVo is an always-on device so basically it will always be the default source. The Media Centre is automatically selected when the PC is turned on, and the whoel setup reverts to TiVo when the PC is shut down.

So far so good...

I've noticed something happening before my previous post, but didn't have time to test then.

Now that I have tested I can confirm that it's quite slow to switch sources. What this means is that the Media Centre PC will start and find HDMI video but not audio. So basically it's "soundless" unless you disable and enable the HDMI device in Control Manager (or via a DevCon batch utility).

I will test a bit more by adding a couple of seconds in the boot screen to see if the switch has time to set the link properly.

Adding the time to boot didn't work, but I found this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975538

"Audio devices are missing or are displayed as "Not plugged in" after you restart a the computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2"

Will try it tomorrow morning.

Tested the hotfix, lots of reboots during the day and haven't missed audio since.

All in all, very good little device.
