NEO doesn't have editing facilities yet (though this is planned to enable the removal of commercials).
What I would do is this. Set the system to record the various program segments, not one consolidated block.
Once recorded the facility exists to create "playlists" (ie. select a number of recordings) and then transfer these to other media.
(CD, DVD, USB hdd, USB stick) A 2Gb stick can contain more than two hours of TV.

basil: I am also looking at the same machine to be able to record multi program playouts from MySky (eg 4 hour continous) then break the file into individual programmes and record onto DVD so I can watch in other locations (mainly on my notebook). Does anyone know f this s possible with this machine (or anther simlar)?

My Panasonic E100H (3 years old) does that, so I'm sure the new models do too. You can do basic editing, eg chop out commercials, or trim front and back. You can also divide one program into two or three or whatever. You can then title them individually and copy as desired onto dvd.

Having almost purchased the panasonic eh55 ( still got 10 days to return the beast) I have found it nearly has all the features I wanted. things to note

Divx will only play on dvd-r or cd-r or cd -rw discs dvd-rw will not work foir divx ( I also think you cannot copy divx coded video to the hard drive either). I dont know if this is deliberate or just a limitation. However most divx content is split into 700 mb files any way, so I purhcased some nice fast cd-rw 700 discs works perfect :-) .

It is a tad noisy I have it under my sony 42 inch wega and it vibrates the glass shelf so I have placed rubber under it, and placed the sky digital box on top of tit that stops most of the vibration from the hard drive.
Now on to the technical stuff
Question.
Has any one noticed strange artifacts with the on screen volume control bar from the satelite box I have a pace and it puts it up the left hand side in bright yellow. If I use the direct to tv rgb socket I see no artifacts. If I watch the signal via the dvd recorder progresive scart s-video or compiste. I see the yellow bar picelate quite badyly. Also the video is a lot stronger ( Higher contrast). I am thingking that my sky box is outputing a bit to much signal and over driving my recorder. I had the same issue with a winpvr 2000 capture card.

Any one else out there noticed this thx
Dave

Do you see the higher-contrast issue playing back a pre-recorded dvd? If you record the volume indicator pixellation (I presume that's what you meant) onto a dvd and play it elsewhere, is the result the same? That may help narrow down which connection has the problem.

When MySky ws installed, the installer connected the video composite cable and s-video at the same time, which the tv manual says not to do. The result was a bit of blurriness and over-bright picture.

No play back of normal dvds seems fine it is just when I use the device as pass through. I have not tried to record the volume control maybe I will try that next

I have tested recording the sky menu and volume control.  what a mess it plays back exactly the same poor quality lots of artifacts. I took the recording (dvd-rw)in to powerstore to show them the issue. They gave me another thing to try plug in my video camera and record the menu of that. I May even point it at the sky menu on my sony 42 vega just for fun to see what it looks like as a tv capture. Ps The unit I tested it on in the store was a sone bravia lcd 32 inch with a sony player. The picture quality was pants it looked much better on my pc I think the mpeg decoding does not do much on sony on the filtering front.

I am so glad I bought my sony grand wega :-)
I will post more when I have more info.

So if I understand you correctly, you recorded a dvd-rw (presumably at max quality?) of the Pace volume control, and played it back on other machines and still saw the problem? If so, that narrows it down to the decoder-to-dvd connection.

Did you set the decoder to the same mode that you are using? Back when I had a digital decoder, you had to select output as s-video if you use the s-video ports, composite if you use the composite ports etc. I think it was a Motorola, not Pace, but I'm not sure. Even now with MySky, you have to tell it the video mode to operate in, and if you tell it one thing and connect to another, the results are less than desirable!

Yes at max quality. Sorry it is a Motorola My old Uk one was a Pace (Senior moment). I have tried all the different output modes and tried the second scart output as well.
Todays test with my cam corder showed no degradation or artifacts with the menu on the camera or with the picture quality, zero degradation. Better than I have seen before when inputing to a standard recorder and viewing on screen.
So I am definatly convinced it is the sky box.
I also noticed that the tuner on the dvd recorder is dam good as well. The terestial signal being quite clear from noise.
Then I compared sky  channel 1 (tvnz) with the terestial tvnz signal.

The Terestial is better quality good grief what has happened to sky digital. You can see the difference if you look at the clock at the bottom of the breakfast on show. It looks as if the interlacing is stuffed up. Infact the bottom 1/4 of my screen looks as if horizontal lines may actually be out of order. I have posted a queston on the sky help site. I think my box is stuffed.

Note for curing vibration noise thx Powerstore Moorhouse Use blue tack under the feet of the device.

And yet the sky box signal is ok going to the tv. Hmmm. Have you tried unplugging the sky-to-tv connection from the tv and plugging it into the HDDR?

Yep tried that t is almost as if the box is sending to strong a signal I may hack an old scart lead an attenuate the signal with a few resisters. But before I do that I will try to loan a different sky box from a neighbour.
Sky support did clear up one issue with when I play my dvd the sky video signal is replaced with my dvd hdd signal. A benefit in one way as now I can watch the dvd hdd from any room in the house without changing my existing house cabling ( which took several attempts to clean up the sky uhf to optimum quality). draw back is sky is effectivly disabled throughiut the house.
Doh!
tha saga goes on

It doesn't make sense to me that the signal is ok to the tv, yet too strong for the HDDR. In my experience, if it is ok for one it is ok for all - the signal levels are standardised. It still sounds to me like the type of signal the sky box is sending is not the type the HDDR is expecting.

This problem bugs me too (obviously not as much as it bugs coolvibes). There is a circumstance when the output of a SKY decoder will display differently on a TV to another device - it happens when a new device doesn't have proper termination on its SCART S-Video chroma pin input. Only a few manufacturers do this (to enable non-standard DC switching on the pin) and some SKY decoders are not upset by it, but it is common enough that SKY have cables made up to fix it. In your case, however, this doesn't sound like the problem - you have tried alternate output types and the symptoms are different.

If you leave aside a settings mismatch (as suggested by John) you have three bits that could be wrong - the decoder, the cable and the recorder. You've shown that the decoder and cable work OK to the TV so the more likely problem device is the recorder. The question would be whether all recorders of that type behave similarly. One suggestion is, if you can record the problem on a DVD. that you go back to SKY web support and ask if you can send it in for SKY to look at. It would help their lab guys to be able to see exactly what you're seeing. Alternatively, if you live in Auckland and don't mind bringing it in, you could arrange to take the recorder into their lab, plug it up to a range of decoders and talk directly to their engineer who deals with most of this kind of device issue.

M

Aloha: In which TV guide? I didn't find in Sky's Tv guide... or am I blind?

I think they are also in your local newspaper's TV listings page...? dunno, I can't say for sure as I won't buy the Manawatu Sub-Standard... (local paper for Palmerston North).

G-code is great...especially for lazy people like me!
