lchiu7: Slightly OT but my Onkoy TX-SR576 HDMI board has failed completely also. And the cost for a new board is almost the same as a new AVR.

bsd1: Slightly off topic. I have an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver with the well documented HDMI handshake issue (audio and picture blink in and out for a few minutes after the receiver has warmed up, happens irrespective of input). I've seen that the fix could be as simple as replacing four capacitors but I'm not up to doing the repair myself. For the record the receiver was bought when I still lived in the UK back in 2008.
Can anyone recommend a repair company in the Wellington region?

I did the fix on my SR606, and I have absolutely no experience in electronics. It's pretty straightforward and took me about an hour or so to do.
Have you seen the video on Youtube that shows you what to do?

Nope, got a quick link?

@vaav - Did you have any additional issues with the SR608?
Mine appears to be failing with HDMI. If I connect directly to the TV no issues, but via the Onkyo I get issues similar to the HDMI failure due to bad capacitors reported by many other Onkyo users.
