No software. You just have to adjust the menu items to your satisfaction in conjunction with reading the user manual. Factory default is usually pretty close. I only changed a few settings on mine. Digital TV is sharp. You either have a perfect picture or none at all (except for pixellation and dropouts under very weak signal conditions). You will notice a big differece from your soft analogue picture with associated ghosting, snow, etc. A bit like the difference between VCR Cassette Tape and Blu-Ray. It will probably take a bit of getting used to after watching analogue for years. I found the step-up from an LCD HD ready TV to an LED full HD TV rather an improvement too. Check TVNZ or TV# or SKY's TV Guide to see which programs are actually in HD. There aren't many yet but the transmission is in 1080i which is much better than the old analogue standard hence the SD programs all look better.

You need to turn Intelligent Frame Creation to 'Off' from its default state of 'Mid'.
As for picture settings, True Cinema will give you the best adjustable picture mode but within the first 200-400 hours of ownership, the phosphors are still bedding in. Don't push them too much in the first couple of months. After that you can increase the contrast and knock the colour bar down a few nits.
