There is no reason you cant proper install your current speakers, they only use RCA plugs on them because that makes them easier to setup and less prone to people cocking them up than the other option that cheap crap speakers use, which is just bare wires in spring clips.

I'm not sure if you can, you would have toadd an rca tip to normal speaker wire. I'm not willing to solder etc.

Rather than start a new thread, does anyone know where I could get a headphone cable extension that has inline volume control?

They are really hard to find, (even in Hon Kong).

Just cut the cable you have with the speakers in half. That way you are certain that it isnt whisker thin like some of the RCA interconnects that are around the place.

My mate had the older version of those and they are mental.

Thats a good price, you got them off ebay or something?

I still find it weird there isnt a circa $250-$300 set that is inbetween those and the $100 sets.

I have the older z-5500's. They are pretty good. A mate reckons they "are deficient in midrange" but for $470 for amp and speakers they were a good deal.

Unfortunately they didn't add HD-audio or HDMI to the new model.
