Don't you guys get annoyed with youtube/facebook/no video Skype etc via a PS3?!
I hate doing stuff on the PS3 which I could do 100x quicker with a keyboard and mouse. I'd probably be looking more towards using the computer for most stuff and ideally the TV for youtube and Skype video connections only to utilise the big screen? I guess it depends on how you setup your life/gear etc.
I think you'd want to purchase the BD remote or add the $100 harmony PS3 adaptor, unless you're happy controlling the DVD etc now from a hand controller etc.
I personally find the PS3 works best in tandem with a computer to house the music/video media files etc. You can't do folders on the PS3 itself and you can't (I think?!) bring play lists across from a computer, so I find it hard to find songs etc from a giant list of them etc. - Though truthfully I probably just need to spend the time to clean up the metadata on the files to include correct album/artist info etc.
Well I don't personally use the PS3 for much browsing whatsoever, just occasionally youtube when I want to show a group of people something. But you could always get a keyboard with a touchpad if you wanted to use it more. Personally I've been hoping that they would utilise the Move controller into a point and clicker for the web browser. Unfortunately this is yet to happen.

+1 for Oppo - I LOVE mine, and also use it to play photos & video from a networked DNA server
-1 for PS3 as it doesn't rate in comparison to the Oppo IMHO

More and more I just want a reliable htpc. Something that runs windows and then media player/centre etc.
You know, like a consumer product: small, has an IR port for use with 'old fashioned' IR remotes, quiet and fanless, all audio cables etc connect at the back, usb port on the front, just works, hdmi to TV, onboard graphics so no stupid hardware/driver conflicts etc. Bluray drive would be cool, and native out of the box support for HD audio formats across hdmi etc.
That would give you skype video calling, fast and easy facebook integration, non restricted you tube etc, all just open source/normal approaches. You could choose if you wanted to use a wireless keyboard/mouse or touch panel or IR remote etc. Bluetooth would allow iphones/pod touches/android units etc to control it that way too.
At this stage it doesn't need to tune freeview either, but you could add a HD homerun device later if you wanted to go down that route. I don't know why there isn't something like that out there cheaply, maybe $400 mark for instance?
Another vote for ps3 here, mine gets used predominantly for movies and tv on dvd as well as streaming from my pc over wifi.
Biggest gripe I have is with hdd compatibility, needed to format my external hdd to fat32 to work with it which limits file sizes to 4 gig, haven't tried streaming 720p or 1080p over ethernet yet, wifi is too flaky here to work though. I've had no trouble with youtube, Supposedly any usb hid keyboards and mice will work with a ps3, haven't tested this though as my keyboard has a ps/2 connector. Tvnz on demand is pretty good with it's own app built in.
