Firstly, for a 32" it is near impossible to tell the difference at normal viewing distance. Secondly, for a granny, who I doubt would care about Full HD (Or HD at all), if she could even tell the difference.

I've got mine under 4,5 meters and I can tell difference between 720p and 1080p videos. as you would imaging 1080p videos are more sharper... and samsung's upscaling is not bad at all. watching dvd or dvdrips is alright, exceptable, but when I got a chance to view it FullHD - i would not miss it.
and talking price wise, what's the difference? $20-100, right? For better technology, is not too bad :)
$485 for a 4 series Samsung, $599 for a FHD 5 series Samsung. For a granny, I'd get the 4 series every time. However, if they are hard of hearing, I'd ensure I got a TV with RCA audio out so they can use wireless headphones that are independent of the TV's volume. Which... would mean a Panasonic or hunting down an old Sony.
