sbiddle: Forget buying when there is a "deal" on, thsi simply means they're dropping prices to what they should be.

If you're not haggling with staff over any big ticket item you will get ripped off these days,?and you'll potentially get better deals at times when it's quiet.

I haven't found that to be the case. In fact I thought I had got a good deal with a retailer after shopping around, and paying cash, and paying one retailer against another. However the next weekend the retailer had a big sale, and were selling the item for quite a bit less than what I had negotiated the price for. Luckily I got them to pay me the difference. I think sometimes they buy some things in bulk specially for a sale, which allows them to sell at even lower prices. So yes you can often get the best deals in some sales.

You'll find that most places will only ever special off their bottom of the line products...
A cheap and nasty 32" TV, a 42" HD Ready Plasma, a 40" Full HD but 50Hz LCD... maybe the 50Hz 40" LED.
They will be crucified to get the punters in - mint if you're after a cheapie.
But when it comes to buying high end TV's like 65" Panasonic's etc, then the chains that sell the most will no doubt get the best price.

Watch the model you want on Pricespy. Usually someone will have a sale every few weeks and the price will drop by a large amount for a short time.

I disagree.

For bells and whistles, yes the modern stuff will do everything.

For performance, I've yet to find anything better than my old Pioneer Kuro.

For bells and whistles, yes the modern stuff will do everything.

That is probably an exception to the rule. Those kuros were top of the line units which I believe pioneer stopped making. So you probably won't find anything that will match that picture quality today.

Harveys generally have killer weekend sales. They don't advertise them though, just walked into the shop last weekend and they had the Samsung 64" D550, with 3D blu-ray player, 3 glasses and Megamind 3D movie for $3400 with 6 months deferred and another 12 months interest free. Insane deal and one I couldn't refuse.

Now have a nice 64" TV.
