richms: When I looked into that all the boxes had to be on the same channel, the idea was that a card sharing server was setup so that you connected thru the internet to that, which was connected to someone else who was decoding the same channel that you wanted to watch allowing you to watch it with no card.Thats not the same sort of thing. Thats used for people sharing one subscription over the internet. What lchui7 is referring to are the ISO 7816 card splitter which have two or more dummy circuit cards that are inserted in to each receiver, each with with a telephone cable or wireless connection to master device holding the subscription card. They dont need to be on the same channel or anything like that.
lchiu7: Looks very interesting. I have been using gbpvr for the past year or so and it works great with a Hauppauge 250 card. I can see the advantages of not decoding the MPEG2 signal and re-encoding it with the Hauppauge. Also it would seem that since the MPEG2 signal is captured directly to the drive, if you play that back from your PVR to your TV over say HDMI, then gets over the complaints that many users have that the TCL STB only has composite video outputs. This would provide the best signal you could get from the incoming signal.
I guess the only issue for me would be, since you have to put the smartcard in the Irdeto CAM that means to be able to watch TV normally without having to go through gbpvr you will need two cards and that will cost you an additional $19.95/month from my recollection.
Out of interest how much is the FireDTV DVB-C and a Irdeto CAM?
Thanks
Larry
Pearless:They're not sold in New Zealand. You'd have to import one.
Where can you source these cards + Irdeto CAMs in NZ (and how much)?
Cheers Douglas.

Pearless:I'm not really sure. I was lucky - mine were freebies from the manufacturers.sub:Pearless:They're not sold in New Zealand. You'd have to import one.

OK, any recommendation as to a reputable overseas supplier?

You should be able to use either the red or purple label Irdeto CAM. Pictures here http://www.scmmicro.com/dvb/dvb_cam.html#Irdeto1.11 and http://www.scmmicro.com/dvb/dvb_cam.html#IrdetoCCTV. I have both of these.
The older white and blue ones used in Australia are incompatible.

Any idea on how Telstra would view this type of thing? I know a paid up card is still required but would they object to it?
allstarnz: intersting. No it wouldntwork with Sky. Sky use NDS VideoGuard encryption, which has no CAM modules available to consumers.
This wouldn't work with normal Sky digital though would it?As i understand it, there is a mechanism in the cards to to you putting them into another CAM.
