Bucksy: Might be worth setting up a new User account with no password, then open Win Media Player 12 and get the streaming going in the new account. Then see if the Onkyo can see it.
Just to be right--I am not sure I am setting up a "user account". What are the basics of that?. I have been looking on the net but maybe I am off course.

Another possibility is that your firewall is not allowing the Onkyo in (though if you can see it from Win 7 that seems unlikely). Aaah the joys of networking!

I thought of that and turned the firewall off.

Of course a new "user account"--I was thinking within WMP a big DUH
