Hi All,

Ok lets forget wireless then. How about the Mediagate MG-35? Without adding a HD it can run across the network. Looks pretty good?

I must admit I am looking at one of those also. But I need wireless access which means I would need to connect up a wireless bridge. Something like

A bit too much. I can getg the MG-25 for about US$110 and I have seen on ebay wireless bridges for US$30. Given I am in the US at the moment maybe I should just order the two?

Cheapest NZ new price I have now seen has been about NZ$380 + P&P, so yes the trademe one is marked up at a premium.

http://www.pctronix.co.nz/product_info.php?products_id=10970 and no HD. I see it plays a few more formats than the non-wireless player. I wish it was a bit cheaper lol

I meant the one on Trademe. Given as I noted before the US price without HD is about $110 which is about NZ$170. That makes it attractive

ah right, yup i see what you mean. no the trademe one didnt have a hd with it. i would imagine a US version might have probs with our voltage etc? having said that seems like it would be worthwile purchase!

I ended up getting the Pinnacle Showcenter 1000 which was on sale as a factory closeout on ebay. I paid US$50 for it including local shipping and local taxes and brought it back with me.

It is basically this unit

It has builtin ethernet and some models came with an included Wireless G card which slots into a PCMCIA slot in the back. Alas this one didn't and apparently the slot only supports Pinnacle's wireless card. So I have had to purchase a wireless G bridge which I can then plug into the ethernet connection to wireless enable the device.

I bought the unit because it was 1) cheap and 2) my US friend had one in his house where I was staying and it performed great, displaying Divx content over a wireless network to a 50" LCD RP TV.

The big thing with the wireless MediaGate (MG-350 I think it's called) is that not only is it wireless but it's High Definition as well, it'll do 1080i video files. It says it won't do them over wireless, only off the Hard Drive but I tried it with one file and it seemed to work fine. Maybe increased network traffic might hinder it but the one test I did the MG and the Computer it was reading from were the only things turned on on my wireless network.

Seriously though it's great, bit expensive but IMO well worth it...
