Following on from Dunnersfellow, if your room is smallish or you don't need to go really loud, I'd seriously consider the NAD T748 which can be had for <$1k, and has a very much lower distortion rating than any of the "name brands" (by a factor of 10!)
Thanks, Though I did not ask the question your reply was so comprehensive i had almost everything i needed to know about Amp's, I now plan to get Denon AVR 1912 and speakers undecided but looking at Kef C7 ( bit of mixed reviews about them though) but with budget of upto 2000$ not sure where i should cut on speakers or Amp. Idea is to get a system capable of handling 3D, HD and possibly internet radio as well. Not thumping music but very high fidelity or crisp clear music.
Nice choice amp wise - but instead of cutting the speaker budget / quality... why not start with a stereo pair + a subwoofer? Then, use that as a base to build from - by adding a centre speaker, followed by surrounds? I'd recommend that well and truly over buying a cheaper 5.1 pack.
