Does anyone know if there are major supply constraints on the 2013 Panasonic plasmas?

I had a quick trawl of PriceSpy and the 'usual suspect' chain-store websites to check the prices for a P50ST60 and there is a glaring absence of any Panansonic  plasmas listed at HN, DSE, JB etc.  Noel Leeming at least have a listing for that model, but it is flagged as ‘special order only’.

So, it seems like they have cleared last year’s stock but are yet to get the new models?  Or are plasmas in NZ a dead market they have given up on?

That is strange. I'm sure we got a mailer just yesterday or Monday from HN with some ("introductory") deals on Panasonic 50inch plasmas, but they don't seem to be on their website, in fact I don't see any panasonic plasmas?

Yeah I often wonder if the websites lag significantly behind what is actually in stock, but given there are very few models listed anywhere I suspected lack of supply is the cause.

Actually it is online, but only through their catalogue, without any model number (S60Z?) and listed as "in store only":

http://catalogues.harveynorman.co.nz/Half_Yearly_Clearance/4919/Panasonic_50_127cmv_Full_HD_Plasma_Television/458714

The cynic in me wonders if they're doing this so these don't show up on tools like pricespy and people can't see the price history on them...

The S60 should not be confused with the ST60.

Pricespy and the websites definitely lag behind at this time of year (same thing happened last year too). I've seen 50" and 60" S60 and ST60's instore at both HN and NL and 55" VT60's on the floor (special orders). This all happened before pricespy even listed some of them and there are some models that Pricespy hasn't yet listed.

Indeed. Seems a little sneaky if that is the case!  Probably not the best time to buy price-wise anyway, though sales seem to be frequent all through the year now.

(Slightly off topic, but a few weeks back had to buy a new fridge and local Wellington retailer LV Martin gave us an excellent deal on a new-model F & P - without my even attempting to haggle.  Suspecct times is tight in retail electronics)

Indeed it shouldn't!  I was just speculating that looks like the model HN is advertising without a model number given the price :)

But pricespy and others might be lagging behind because HN isn't puttnig these on their main website, but instead hidden in a link behind their catalogue. If you go to their main website and click TVs then Plasma or 3D Plasma, no panasonic's show up...  maybe their rationale is that they don't sell them online yet.

Ah gotcha. Yeah I've seen that a few times now as the S60 seems to be featured in every '2013 Model' ad this year so far.
They are pretty much in every store now  and have been for a few weeks . The general public probably come in expecting to see the range or at least the ST60, but only find the bottom-feeder S60 and old ST50 stock.
At least those days are soon to be numbered.

You can also call/email avworld (www.avworld.co.nz) - they seem very knowledgeable on the 2013 plasma range.

Disclaimer: I am calling them today to pick a tv

Companies can put whatever TV's they want on their website, it doesn't have to mean there's a conspiracy.

However, there's no 3D plasmas TV's on Harvey Norman's website, Powerstore / LV Martins only have two, while Noel Leeming has a TV that isn't actually available in their stores (65VT60)... so yeah, I'm picking that it's early in the season and that TV's are in limited stock.
