also be interested in how you shipped the screen as when I looked at one to ship via YouSHop they stated it was to big and outside the size limit that they ship.

I got the Acer H5370BD projector, pioneer HTP-072 home theatre pack and a cheap 100" manual screen that came free with the projector.

It's about as low end as exists, but gets us 720p and it was my fiancé who asked if we could have one when we moved in together (we'll watch stuff on laptops/desktop rather than a TV and the projector is the 'treat'). I envy anyone who can spend more on their budget, but unless an expensive projector ruins her I don't think the quality will bother her.

It's going to Massachusetts as I'm moving there, so I can't be any help about importing them sorry. I haven't actually looked at the price differences between NZ and USA.

Kopkiwi:
sen8or: Except if you are intolerant to the effects of a wheel spinning in front of the light source, then the rainbows and eye strain make them unwatchable.

Which is a very very small percentage of people and somewhat not an issue with 6x wheels.

I may be incorrect but I'm pretty sure you also don't get lens shift with DLP so the projector has to be dead centre of where you are projecting. Lens shift allows for mounting high/low or even off to the side of the room.

The Mitsubishi HC7900DW does have verticle lense shift but not horozontal. The BenQ w1070 also does as well but not as much as the mitsubish. Both dont have any horozontal shift however so have to be centered in the room in relation to the screen position.

When looking at the HC7900DW with a 120" screen then the throw distance is about 4.4meters with seating position starting at 3.7m so fits well in my room. Just now need to see if I really need it now considering the room wont be ready to use until about May/June.

You're incorrect. I had a Benq W7000 that had full lens shift.

Have you pulled the Trigger yet KopKiwi on the 7900DW?

I checked out my Dads projector yesterday to get a comparison on the brightness as he has a batcave room with dark ceilings and walls but his projector is an old Infocus IN76 and thats only 1000 lumens I have since found out. That gives me some reassurance that the 1500 of the Mitzi 7900 should be fine for my room with white ceilings and walls.

My next challenge then is getting a screen, hence the origional topic of this post haha ;-)

the Tasman screen that was on sale on Trade Me has been a mere to get a time to go and see it to see if it has any defects so I have to go with another plan. The killer is that Elite screens you can get on Amazon or Direct for about $300 US but either they dont deliver or the delivery cost is stupid. I looked at a cost via myusa and it was about 6 grand!!!

My other option is to look to see if you can get any deals in Australia as I am going to Cairns to see realitves in a few weeks so I could get something delivered there and bring it back as oversized baggage?

at last I think I have found a solution!!

Kiwishipping a mainfreight company does shipping like many of the other USA my address type freight forwarders from their base in California.

http://www.kiwishipping.co.nz/

The cost to ship (sea freight) the screen and the projector is going to be $250NZ. considering I was looking at about $100 just for the projector then this is quite a good deal.

The fact that it may take 6 - 8 weeks is not an issue either as I have to renovate the room so this gives me a timeframe to work too.

I think I will sign up and place some orders tomorrow once I double check the screen size I need in the room.

Does the $250 include insurance?

Hmm good point
I will have to check with Kiwi shipping to see if damage in transit is covered or not.

I have confirmed that insurance is not included. Kiwishipping can organise this and Its 2% of the value of the goods, so about an extra $25 on my order.
I placed the order today for a Mitsubishi HC7900DW from B&H PhotoVideo and a Elite screen from Elite Screen shop.
I am sure that it will all come together and hopefully there are not to many hidden costs.

Sorry mate. Missed your earlier post. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Am looking at increasing the budget a little and getting a Sony VPL HW50ES for $2k 2nd hand with a spare bulb and 2 x 3D glasses. Or an Epson 6010 with the same extras and cost.

Never heard of that shipping place before, wonder if it's much cheaper than youshop?
