Stan: If you want a new TV I would hold off for a bit just seen the new LG 55ub850v 55inch 4k and with a nz retail of $3999 you can bet someone will special them off soon at $2999.
Also it runs webos so that could be interesting.

Eeeeew.
Low spec UHD's... eeeew.
50Hz junkers (with claimed higher refresh rates).
Small, far smaller than you'd want for UHD content UNLESS you want a very big computer monitor for who knows what? Certainly a 55" LED is smaller than the OP wants.
Web OS could be interesting, but it could also be as big of a hit as it was for HP. I personally owned a Web OS tablet, but only because it was being cleared as part of HP's fire sale, I got mine so I could load it with Android...
dafman: I have the ST65 Panasonic. Paid $3,200 about a year ago. Absolutely love it. If you want a cinematic picture, this cannot be bettered.
And perfectly fine in a bright room.

Actually, if you want a cinematic picture, a projector can't be bettered :-)
I bought a VT20 a few years ago and it was SUPERB, then I bought a cheap projector and a good screen... Blew me away. Then I bought a nice projector (Panny AE7000). Blew me away again.
By all objective measurements, the TV is better. But I enjoy watching movies on the projector HEAPS more. Feels more cinematic. (But doesn't get used during the day at all)
Cheers - N
