"All SKY’s digital channels will be off the air from 01:00 am for a period of up to four hours on Tuesday 31 July 2007."
Bear in mind, Prime already has digital transmission, due to their parent owner. So it'll be unlikely to see Prime on Freeview - why should Sky pay twice to broadcast their programme ? Plus considering Prime content is sourced from Sky (which is why it's so cheap to run).
And seeing the great analogue switch off is years away, I think it's too soon to expect prime to move to Freeview.
The dont need to run parallel transmissions, Sky would just need to turn the encryption off on their current stream, certed FreeView boxs would require FreeView add the Sky stream of prime to their EPG, and those with basic FTA boxs would simply need to scan the appropriate Sky mux to find the Prime stream and store the detail.
I do struggle a bit to see how Sky can justify encrypting Prime. If it is FTA surely that is making it well not FTA... Is anything like that done overseas?

I've just looked again at the Sky web page, and it says the date was today, the time was early this morning, and there is an update at 4:23am saying it is all over. So it's done and dusted. Anyone with feedback?
Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.
I installed a splitter (sky powers the LNB) and ran a cable down the wall for a seperate room install last weekend.
Sky in the lounge, FTA sat box in the bedroom.
Come around 0112 this morning (yeah, nerd. I was up for it) the switch seemed to magically have happened and the FTA started getting a signal once skybox had switched.
No issue at all, was able to sit back and fall asleep to discovery channel again (coming soon screens on tvnzsport and maori don't do it for me)
Maybe that's why they preferred VPOL - Stronger signal???
Anyway I live in a big apartment complex in Auckland CBD and we had nothing except the Preview channel this morning at 8am (Said name server could not be found or something). I'm still at work but my GF tells me it is working now. We only clear the letter box once every 7 to 10 days (probably typical for some apartment dwellers) and so hadn't seen the letter by this morning. But thankfully due to GZ was aware of it and assumed a tech would be out today to adjust the dish.
Without seeing the letter I'm not sure, but they should have put something in it about people connected to a central dish.
I have just had the sky tech. out and had my dish re-aligned, my Signal is back to 81dBuV and Quality is back to full. Maybe everyone who cannot do it themselves call sky to have it done.
